The winners of the 13th annual Animation Kobe Awards have just been announced, which is weird because the actual awards ceremony is on November 2nd. The Kobe Awards are perhaps the most beloved and prestigious awards for the Japanese anime industry. And the winners are…

Individual Award: Mitsuo Iso (Director and creator of Denno Coil)
Special Award: Masaki Tsuji (Writer for numerous anime titles like, Cutey Honey, Tiger Mask, Dr. Slump, and many more)
Theatrical Film Award: Evangelion: 1.0 You Are [Not] Alone
Television Award: Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2
Network Award: Miku Hasune
Theme Song Award: “Triangler” (Macross Frontier’s first opening) by Maaya Sakamoto

There you go, though I never expected Code Geass R2 to win the television award. Actually, the first season took last year’s television award as well... and to think that beat out Gurren Lagann. Well, I guess the judges must love C.C. ass or something, because I don’t know how they can vote for a show that hasn’t even ended yet.

Or maybe a certain somebody used a certain eye power on the judges in order to win this award. Wasn’t Britannia enough, Lelouch?

Can't say I agree with them. Kara no Kyoukai was an amazing movie, oblivious was an amazing theme song, Code Gayass is just Code Gayass, and it needs moar desu.

Indeed, the appeal of C.C. ass is quite strong. The other anime didn't have a chance. You can say it was....Just as planned.

I hate everything about that image so much....Obama should be Ohgi, both are annoying as anything and don't really have a clue what's going on.

@Kageryu: The entire series of KnK is amazing...ufotable basically approached Kinoko and Takeuchi and handed them a blank check when they were making it (well, actually it was more like they said they'd do anything they told them too, but w/e). Basically the animation was amazing, and the story was at least as impressive. The first movie would've been ok to compare, but the third movie is where they could've walked all over the Eva movie....damn Eva and it's ridiculous ability to not STAY DEAD... sorta like all the side characters of a certain aforementioned show....

Well, Code Geass R2 did have Spinzaku, so it's hard to compete against that...

I agree with Walfisch. Channey would be Charles.

I don't know if Code Geass is the best series of the year, but it's probably up in the top ones.

Maybe the judges are all Pizza Hut delivery boys.

I want to see Biden as Tohdo and Palin as Nina.

Geass is in no way, shape or form better than TTGL. I don't see Lelouch kicking reason to the curb in order to overthrow Britannia.

@Heero - That goes without saying, but to give each movie it's own slot would be cheating. Then the running would have been read as "Kara no Kyoukai - Overlooking View, Kara no Kyoukai - A Study in Murder (Part 1), Kara no Kyoukai - Remaining Sense of Pain, Oh, and Evangelion too we guess..."

But actually, ufotable took some freedom away from Kinoko. Initially, Kinoko didn't like the way he wrote the original, so he wanted to revise it, but ufotable said no, and that they were going to be faithful to the original source material.

Wow... I never liked R2 that much. I wouldn't think it could have won.

And Code Geass beat TTGL! That's insane. Who was this bloody committee...

@Kageryu: Yeah I read about that in FAUST where they interviewed Kinoko and Takeuchi. Takeuchi seems like an amusing guy too.

@Heero - I've always wondered, does Kinoko speak English? He uses alot of terminology in English, but none of it makes a whole hell of alot of it sense (unless explained, like Marble Phantasm)

Code Geass R2 beat THE Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann? The same Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann with heaven-piercing drills, manly speeches, and a giant robot cooler than Lancelot could ever hope to be?

I think a little part of me died on the inside.
