It really is nice to see recognition of anime that I watched way back when nowadays, but sometimes I just shake my head. Variety Magazine has reported that Warner Bros. and Leonardo DiCaprio's film production company, Appian Way, have gotten the rights to create a live action Ninja Scroll motion picture. When Ninja Scroll was released back fifteen years ago, it was definitely a sight to behold, and still holds up very well.
In all honesty I'm not sure how I feel about it being made into live action, but it can't be as bad as a live action Akira. Hopefully it won't just whizz right in the face of an amazing piece of work. Alex Tse has been said as the person to take on the job, as he has recently worked on both Watchmen and The Illustrated Man. Appian Way's Jennifer Davisson Killoran and Mike Ireland will be producing the film, along with Madhouse itself.
As of now Michael Mann is attached as directing. Leonardo DiCapro does not plan on acting in the film, though, so I'll be interested to see who actually gets chosen. What do you think? Absolute disaster to the classic anime, or does the film stand a chance?
