Ah how I love public squabbles with some of the most random things. A citizen submitted the question to the Sakai City website demanding with much volition as to why there were so many Boy's Love manga in the public libraries. As a fan of the stories myself I think it'd be quite magical to actually find such things in the library. Though with much of the nature of the stories, I can never imagine it actually happening.
City councilor Naruaki Mizunoue took up the issue with the Board of Education to see what their verdict would be. It was argued that while the manga is legal, they are pornographic, so public money should not be spent to purchase them. Members from a company specializing in yaoi stories, including the editor-in-chief of the company spoke out about their point of view in the matter. He stated that the genre had been around for over 30 years and that tax payers are no doubt among the fanbase.
I think I'd have to actually giggle like a little girl if I ever saw it in my local library, but as long as I can find it in the bookstores it's all good!
