I feel like we've tread this territory before, but god help me if I can't find the trail. I know people have been attempting to do the "real life anime" thing in the past, with mixed results. Well, all of that can be cast aside anyway. We have a winner.
Chris Scarborough (aka Scarboy) is an artist working out of Nashville, Tennessee. Either they've been putting something funky in the water supply, or the man is something of a Photoshop-ariffic genius. He's put together a collection of anime-ified portraits that would put most other CG masters to shame. Sure, it's easy to make people look “anime” by giving them some googly eyes and mouse mouths, but it's something else all together to make them feel real. Putting them in real world, and sometimes otherworldly settings, also goes a long way in getting closer toward something special.
Aside from animefication, Scarborough also takes pencil to paper to create surreal clouds of various items like jets, missiles and squirrels, incorporating them with his death's-head-grinning anime girls. This allows him to wander into much more disturbing, and often bloody, waters. Definitely one to watch out for, for many reasons.
