Hollywood, you sly devil. In this war for box office profit with movie adaptations you wage, the fanboys are often the first casualties, but now there's something different. What's this I see? Piccolo is green? GREEN?! You've changed something in your movie into something that is actually similar to it's source material?
Fresh from the internets in this dreary Wednesday morning, DBthemovie.com serves us up a new trailer of the newly-renamed, highly doubted film adaptation Dragonball: Evolution. Judging from this trailer, stuff we've seen in the anime are present such as planet destruction and balls of dragons. I can't help but feel weird with aspects of the movie shown in the trailer, such as the fights being done in over-wrought wire-fu glory while the CG effects have little to no use in the fight sequences.
Everybody knows that the fights in Dragon Ball are very much like the final fight between Neo and Agent Smith in the last Matrix movie. Also, please don't tell me that sorry-ass fireball is a Kamehameha.
Oh god..... I had some hope before, but I'm finding the more I learn about this movie, the less hope I have left.... I mean, come on, they're killing the entire feel of Dragonball Z....
I have my worries. On it's own it looks like it would be a good movie. I'm afraid that if I go see it, I will end up comparing it to Dragonball and hate it. It's a fair reason to hate it, but it seems like a decent flick otherwise. Although trailers have lied to us so many times in the past, and yet we keep crawling back begging for more. It's sickening.
remember... all hollywood made fighting movies have to be like the Matrix... because originality would hurt their wallets. Goku isn't supposed to be like jet li.. he's supposed to be socially awkward with the power to destroy planets on a whim..
You'll find that every character's persona that was once appealing in the Dragon ball series is completely destroyed in this sad excuse of a live action adaptation.. Roshi is the most disappointing of them all, without his perverted comedic punch lines, hes just like any other hollywood movie martial arts master training his pupil to overcome some "evil" force..
Which, by the way, Since when did Goku start doubting his own abilities by whining "I don't think i can do it"..
With out the personage of the original character's this is just another typical CGI enhance martial arts movie..
This shattered my cautiously optimistic outlook. It's like the actual Dragonball's story was not good enough so they had to drag it through every Hollywood stereotype and then covered it with shit.
It seems like the Gods of entertainment are here to collect what's due. After an amazing year of the awesomeness that was The Dark Knight, the equilibrium of good and shitty movies was upset. Dragon Ball is coming to return that equilibrium.
i liked it when Piccolo was destroying everything, but other than that.... Jesus, what the hell is goku doing shooting a kamehameha with one hand! He isn't fighting Freeza yet!
Roshi is not an old fart with a turtle shell on his back? this is disgusting. Also, making Piccolo green won't take the taste of shit out of this movie.

Damn, it looks like they've destroyed the personalities of all the characters. I'll still see this movie, no way I'm gonna pay for it though! Hahahahahahaha!
I love how easily people are doubting this movie based on a TRAILER! Seeing as how we all know how accurate trailers can be in depicting their respective films.
Sure, chances are this movie may not live up to the original anime series, but honestly, what Live action film has or ever will. People are so quick to judge a movie (i.e live action film) with expectations of a realistic adaptation. If you seriously expect a Live action film to be as close in depicting the characters and fighting scenes as it's anime counterpart, then well, it would be far too "cheesy" and would gain just as much if not more criticism than it is now..
I can admit that the Dragon ball series was never a favorite of mine and I believed they should have ended the series far earlier than they had originally, but this movie looks worth-watching regardless of how the trailer portrays it.. Nitpicking and being cynical of this film is understandable and reasonable, but save your pessimism and adverse opinions until after you've seen the film..
Looks pretty horrible its kinda like nothing of dragonball z at ALL!!! but i think some asian film maker should make a dragon ball movie with kids and stuff it would work better than this movie! and i would be THRILLED if there was new MORTAL KOMBAT!!
i think they half assed the movie. they need to sit done and watch dbz before they go and make a movie.
Also they need to re-write goku's lines and take away bluma's guns.
Oh god, not only is it terrible, but I can't believe people are actually interested in it or even willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. Yes, we shouldn't be nitpicking at every detail, but you're telling me I shouldn't mind that they COMPLETELY altered the personalities of main characters and even the very style itself? Non perverted Roshi, Bulma with guns (and probably some unneeded degree of sexual tension throughout the entire movie), and an unconfident Goku? Really, I'm willing to accept some inaccuracies or changes, such as in the upcoming Akira movie or the Transformers movie, but when the very plot and characters are changed into something unrecognizable, I draw the line.
@Gee-Man I completely agree this movie makes me sick. They are not even trying to do the original show justice i feel like the took the essence out of DBZ and have done what they always do. They try to put a new unessasary American spin on it. I don't understand why they can just make the movie like the show in its original form just truncated a bit to please the non fan base audience. However there is almost no one I who hasn't at least heard of Dragon Ball, and besides the only reason to make a movie like this is for the fans. But what I find really hilarious are the strategically placed Asians in an attempt to make the movie feel Japanese-ish. This movie is like DBZ ugly step-brother (twice removed) that everyone hates because he smells funny.
I can't believe they've changed Goku's personality. *sigh* That was all I cared about. C'mon, not every on-screen teenager need to have angst y'know? Or do they?....Actually, no.
@Gee-man i totally agree with GEE-Man argument that DB live action movie should not be given the benefit of doubt. we grew up watching dragon ball we all know the character we all watched with intensely when Goku transformed to a super sayian dragon ball is our childhood and seeing being depicted as trash hurts us to the very core. i died a little inside watching that trailer i wish that it would have never been made...
I'm kinda disappointed this movie looks nothing like the real dragonball. I don't know what to think. Might be a good watch but not if your comparing it to the original series.
KK Goku is not asian, hes SAiyan, which is white skin, black hair, and...monkey bits. So hes a third white, third asian, third...monkey. That been said, that scrawny little kid aint Goku, doesnt look, act or seem like Goku, but a nervouse kid on his first day of school.
