Here is a random piece of news I didn't expect to see within my lifetime. According to MTV Movie Blogs, Keanu Reeves eluded to the world that he would like to play the role of Spike Spiegel in the upcoming live-action adaption of Cowboy Bebop. For those of you who don't know, Twentieth Century Fox has proposed the adaptation of the anime back in July, and has already hired a writer for the film. They are thinking about featuring the "Red Eye" story as the main plot of this film, but maybe throwing in some elements of the overall-arcing story as well.
Reeves states that he likes the “Western film noir aspect, […] that kind of Old West, border town, low-tech science fiction aspect" of Cowboy Bebop. This isn't a surprise because he is a fan of anime -- he even attended the opening day of the Los Angeles's ANIMATE store back in 2000. So it's nice to see an actual anime fan wanting to play a role in the show he or she loves; you can only hope they won't do it wrong. However, I'm not sure if Keanu Reeves is the right person for this role. He already ruined John Constantine for me, and I don't want another to fall to the Reeves virus. I'm not going to be one of those people who say “Spike has to be AZN!!” because as far as i remember, Asia is not on Mars. Though who knows if he will actually get the part.
I will agree though that he doesn't really fit the role of Spike that well. If he really loves Cowboy Bebop he would know this and not try to force himself into the role he wasn't meant to play.
