Hikaru Utada is one of the most recognized names in Japanese pop music, with three albums holding spots in Japan's Top 10 best selling albums of all time (her debut album "First Love" claiming the #1 spot). Now it seems that her popularity is spreading into the US market as well. The news is out that Utada's recent English language album "This is the One" has nabbed the #19 spot in the iTunes Top 20. The album was released on iTunes on March 25th, and is the first album by a Japanese artist to make the list. On top of that, it holds the #2 spot in the "Pop" category. Pretty impressive.
The CD was released in Japan March 14th, but you'll have to wait until April 9th to catch it here in the US. Judging by the sales through iTunes, it seems that "This is the One" will fare pretty well in the US. Anyone here going to run out and buy the album when it releases?
