Japanator Recommends: Mobile Fighter G Gundam

SHUT UP! ALL OF YOU! Now that I have your attention, let me tell you about THE GREATEST ANIME EVER MADE. Mobile Fighter: G Gundam has everything you need to help fuel your manly spirit.

Enough talk! Let's just talk about why you should buy G Gundam,

AND IF YOU DON'T FOLLOW ME, I WILL FIGHT YOU.

Everybody, it's the moment you've all been waiting for! Mobile Fighter G Gundam takes all the things you love about Gundam, and reduces it to a simple contest of men bashing each other in gigantic Gundams for the sake of ruling the world. All of the countries of the world have fled into space, and as a measure of peacekeeping, every four years they have the Gundam Fights as a sort of election process, where each nation's representative fights it out to become the ruler of the universe.

But, I don't care about that, because I'm trying to find my brother Kiyoji. He went and killed my mother and got my father imprisoned, and is off running around with the Dark Gundam -- the world's most dangerous Gundam. I, Domon Kasshu, will surely save my father's life and bring honor to Neo-Japan.

As a departure from normal Gundam design, each of these gundams are a ridiculous stereotype of their own nation, with ones like the Tequila Gundam for Neo-Mexico and the Windmill Gundam for Neo-Holland. My friend Chibodee, from Neo-America, is part boxer, part gunslinger, part football player, and a surfer/skater, depending on the situation.

Debuting back in 1994, the series is one of the most unique Gundam series out there. The series takes a step further into the "what the fuck is this shit" than any other Gundam series I have ever seen. Hell, it's a bit more over the top than the GN particles of Gundam 00. I think Master Asia, the Undefeated of the East, can give you a demonstration of what I mean:

See what I mean? It's a good example of why Master is so fantastic.

The series follows in this vein the whole time, with many of the flavor-of-the-week battles, but what makes it really special, in my opinion, is watching the English dub. The dub is in no way, shape or form high quality, but the amount of energy that they put into it makes it so laughable. Thankfully, the dub is nothing like Love Hina, where it grates on the ears. It's just bad and filled with a lot of yelling.

Mobile Fighter G Gundam is a great show to watch with a group, and laugh at the blatant racism, the over-the-top fighting, and typical shonen plot line. It's a gem, I assure you, but for the same reason that films like Dead Alive are so great.
