I don't know how to feel about the header... I really don't.

Not sure I agree with Hideo being #1. That is, unless the ranking means nothing.

At least what I've taken from Sundome is that it is really a Naota-esque story. A coming-of-age tale of an adolescent making the transition from boy to man and the events that transpire.

In Hideo's case, it's this bizarre sexually tense relationship with a girl who has become the dominant in a sub/dom relationship. He goes through the wringer for her BUT he does grow a spine.

Working out, while at first a distraction to help him uphold his promise to not masturbate when she says so, becomes a catalyst that helps keep him in shape that ultimately transforms him to become capable of helping her with things, such as riding up a hill with her on his bike.

The sushi night becomes the catalyst for his bearing new responsibility and getting a part time job at a store to pay for his part of the sushi, then becomes more when they go out on the town.

I dunno, I get exactly what you're saying, but Aiba is definitely not the same character at Chapter 5 as he is at Chapter 3 as he is at Chapter 1.

Also, he totally begins making requests and demands and asserting himself. He totally got a feel up when they were on the mountain collecting trash for community service because he told her he wanted it.

Though that reminds me... isn't Chapter 6 due out any time now?

Come back when you can last as long as your father.
  • On Noriko Sakai sentenced to 18 months in prison at 11/10 6:21pm
I think that's... pretty excessive, actually.

Unless, of course, those 18 months were spent making certain movies about certain women in certain prisons, if you get my meaning. Eh? EH?

Sorry, pre-empting the misogyny because all those jokes are usually well and done before I get a comment in. =)

But seriously, it is a victimless "crime" and a year and a half is *sigh* worthy.
  • On New regulations looking to punish ISPs for users stealing content at 11/04 3:24pm
I'm prepared to give my life for a war for the internet. I am just as much a resident of the internet as I am a resident of a country.

That probably sounds as dumb to you as this whole premise does to me.

There are traditional business practices that have been in place for decades. Many of them are greedy (music labels, Hollywood, etc) that stifle innovation, rape the content producers and developers by pinning them against a corner with a contract and continue to leverage to keep their business models because it makes them so much money.

Here's the thing, though, there is a new breed of entrepreneurs that have found a way to use the internet to their benefit. They're the new blood who need to overtake the old blood.

When there is a cry about the artists who are losing money because people are pirating his music, you have to remember, the artist isn't losing money. The artist isn't making ends meet through CD sales, he's making ends meet through touring. It is the label who is making money through CD sales. (Look at NiN and Radiohead for examples of "big names" who are pioneering new ways of doing things that use the internet as a tool, not an opponent.)

So to create, international no less, laws that aim to stifle the natural progression to new business models and ways of doing things, especially that which makes it much more serviceable and convenient for the consumers... I can't agree with it. In fact, I strongly disagree with the premise, and the worst I do is download fansubs of shows I can't get or cost an unnecessarily exorbitant amount of money.

No good can come of this. I disagree with you that this won't become 1984, I very much see that potential. And I'm fixing to dip my torches in kerosene and sharpen my pitchforks. It's almost time to get pissT.

  • On IGN tells us who the top 25 most popular anime characters are at 10/28 7:41pm
I like how the vast majority of it are from series that have been shown on Cartoon Network. Hardly a reflection of the American anime scene, but I guess that's as close to mainstream as it has reached here...

I can't eat a banana or cucumber anymore because I feel grossed out because bananas and cucumbers have been sexualized.

    And zucchini.

    And eggplant.

    And squash.

    And celery.

    And apples.

    And oranges.

    And mason jars.

    And lava lamps.

You know, this list could keep going...

  • On Cosplay: how important are the little details? at 09/30 4:47pm
Hmm... wish there was an Edit button.

Perhaps it's better to say you recreate yourself as the character you cosplay.
  • On Cosplay: how important are the little details? at 09/30 4:46pm
I am of the firm belief that DETAILS = EVERYTHING! (Caps'd for the hope you imagine some random guy screaming that at his computer monitor, like A1, yeah, it's that important.)

I view cosplay is a form of homage. Because you loved Metroid so much, you recreate Samus as yourself. Because you loved Cowboy Bebop so much, you recreate Faye as yourself. And maybe you're a man, but hey, you're rocking a spot on costume, so people still get it!

Of course, the degree of which I believe details are everything actually prevents me from cosplaying, more or less. I don't have the physique or features to pull of much, so since I could do a character injustice, I don't even step into that realm out of respect for the source. Anyone who doesn't get Man-Faye would thank me. :)

Yes, details matter. If you ever get a glimpse of the rear in the source material and the panties are neon green with neon pink polka dots, be ready to find or make neon green with neon pink polka dot panties. If you don't, you're shaming your homage! ;)
