- On The Best Thing Ever: Monster at 11/12 9:19pm
Sadly I haven't seen any of this yet. I always meant to, but something new shiny kept getting my attention.
- On The Best Thing Ever: Spice and Wolf at 11/12 11:46am
@Mandril - I felt that Horo's princess routines and Lawrence's prudish behavior were their emotional self defense. They had feelings for each other, but didn't want to get too close, knowing their time together was limited. By the end of season 2, they no longer cared that they would eventually part ways, and their immature behavior was all but gone. They loved each other, and that was all that mattered.
@Rewarp - Looking at Helen's IMDb page, I've never actually seen anything she's been in, so I'll have to take your word for it. (I know, I've never seen The Queen, I'm a horrible film buff... =P )
@lyfeforce - Ne'er hath a truer word been spake.
As for season 3, I haven't heard anything yet. But I hope so, so far they've only covered through the 3rd light novel, I believe, so there's still a lot of story to be told...
- On The greatest dub ever made, starring Conan O'Brien and Andy Richter at 07/25 2:46pm
Conan should have dubbed Kamina. End of discussion.
- On Japanator is heading to Anime Expo! at 06/29 11:51am
I don't have any questions, just, please, take me with you...
- On Japan passes new copyright laws, aimed towards stopping downloads and fansubs at 06/22 03:40am
First and foremost, I'm a collector. I enjoy having a a shelf to point at and say "Look upon all I have acquired over the years!". Plus, I love nothing more than loaning stuff out to people to have them come back and tell me what they've been missing by not watching a particular series or anime in general. Sharing is caring... =)
However, prices are a big deterrent for me. Plus, I've been burned too many times buying shows as the individual discs are released. Nothing pisses me off more than loving the series until the very last episode, then the ending hits and ruins it. I'm left with a series I hate and upwards of $125 blown... Awesome. Fate/Stay Night, I'm looking at you... >=(
Fansubs have driven me to by many, many series, however. To name a few: Gurren Lagann, Haruhi, Fullmetal Alchemist, and as soon as Lucky Star gets a box set, that too. Not to mention Spice and Wolf when that comes out. Just today I bought the first half of Eureka 7 for $35. I watched the fansubs of that LOOOONG ago, but, prices being what they are, I had to wait 3 years for a box set to come out, and that is bar none my favorite anime I've yet to see. As much as I love it, I just simply could not justify buying 12 individual volumes at $21.99 a piece.
The anime industry, and honestly entertainment industries in general, need to accept the fact that the internet has completely changed how the game is played. With the economy like it is, try-before-you-buy is the only sensible way to go, and 25 bucks for 4 episodes is not an option for a lot of people. Funimation has realized this and I applaud them for it. I'd say it's just a matter of time before the rest follow suit.
- On Tuesday Otaku Debate: Which K-On! girl is your favorite? at 05/26 10:56pm
Being a bass player myself, I have to support fellow bassists. Mio FTW.
Of course, I would have voted for her even if I didn't play.
- On Cowboy Bebop movie is green lighted, Keanu Reeves as Spike, Seppuku in fashion at 01/15 1:19pm
Well, we know he can do choreographed fight scenes. And Spike really isn't much of a talker, so I think he might be able to pull it off. Look at the first Matrix, he said like 60 lines in the whole thing and that movie kicked ass. I'm more worried about who they're going to get to direct, personally.

^Watch that for more dub previews^
I find the dub rather lacking so far, then again, I find most dubs lacking. I'll watch it on Sci-Fi and see if it grows on me, but I'm defiantly getting the sub-only releases for now. At this point, if anything gets me to buy it again it will be the extras.

- On Con Reminder: A-kon at 05/28/2008 11:44pm
I was wondering when someone was going to bring A-kon up. No one at amv.org mentioned it either. But yeah, this is my first con. Should I be scared? My friends and I aren't pre-reg, so I already know Friday morning is gonna suck...
I'll also be cosplaying as a drunk salaryman. Best I could throw together with a 1 week notice. >.>
- On Rant: Animation is the best medium for television at 05/24/2008 01:50am
People you are not alone. I mean there is a big resurgence in among people like me a animation fan with a bias for classic American animation influences(which I feel is timeless). Check out the Toonzone.net forums. There is major outrage plus some indie animation efforts like the Frederator.com programs.
Besides that I agree with many of Len's points. In my memory Invasion America
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invasion_America
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0161718/
was the last attempt to introduce mature drama animation to the masses.
Holy shit! Someone who actually remembers that! Too bad it apparently sucked ratings-wise and they never finished it... =(

"It's really a good test to see whether or not your inner child is dead."
My friends and I said almost the exact same thing after we saw it. If you're not a kid at heart, you will hate this movie. I personally loved it. I was expecting cheese and gratuitous eye-candy, I got that and then some. This movie has heart and a love for the source material. Also, if you have any desire to see it, please don't wait for DVD, this is a definite theater movie and should be seen in one.
- On Nodame Cantabile season 2 is coming! at 05/12/2008 2:08pm
LOVED the anime, currently watching the drama, so this makes my cold heart joyful again.
- On Japanator Review: Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone at 04/30/2008 01:47am
One of the changes I really liked was extremely subtle. It was the scene where Shinji is reflecting on the days events in his bed listening to his walkman, just before Misato comes in to praise him. In the original, he has a glazed over, dead-to-the-world look on his face the whole scene. In this, as he thinks of the battle, his eyes get wide as he realizes, "Oh shit, I could have died...". Though subtle, this makes a drastic change in my perception of Shinji. He seems much more human and likable in this movie. I hope they keep this up, because I really wanted to like him in the original series, after all, all he wanted out of life was to be liked. But, try as I might, I still hated him at the end.

2 words. Hell. Yes.
- On Fun Friday AMVs: Technique Beat(s) at 10/27/2007 00:07am
According to Decoy the Naruto one took a couple months editing several hours a day. After Effects may be infinitely powerful, but it's infinitely tedious as well...
- On MangaNovel tries to tempt scanlators with an iPod touch at 10/27/2007 00:00am

- On Should manga and similar illustrations be considered child porn? at 10/26/2007 11:55pm
I agree with Zac and Kitsune on this. Even if they are just drawings, it is still drawings of a little kids. There really can't be any gray areas on this. A line has to be drawn somewhere. If it's pornographic, it should be banned. If it's something like Negima!, which is non-explicit and silly, no banning necessary.
