There are a lot of things out there that make me giddy, and this is definitely one of those things. Italy’s Pallavolo Modena Volleyball team is dressing two of its players with jerseys starring One Piece’s Monkey D. Luffy. However, this is not for the entire team, only its two defensive players “libero”, who replace any of the back-row players during a game; because they are forced to wear different jerseys than the reset of there team.
This isn’t the first time Modena wore awesome jerseys for their libero; before this was Spider-man and Iron Man, both sponsored by Marvel. One Piece seems to be pretty popular over in Italy at the present moment, with an average audience of 1.7 million viewers; enough for Toei Animation to sponsor these jerseys without making the players look like otaku.
This is just epic. Maybe I might be bias seeing as I love One Piece more than my first unborn child, but perhaps this shows the true popularity of One Piece, and how Americans are wrong for giving it the finger and kicking it in the groin. Now this team better be good and make Luffy proud!
