Face Open: CG Gaiking remake gets some overseas supportLike Josh, I wasn't too keen on the gritty look for the CG Gaiking movie, since it was missing that flair from the previous installments. While my only experience with Gaiking is the 2005 series, Gaiking: Legend of Daiku-Maryu, the 2005 anime still kept the pieces that make super robot shows very fun and uplifting for the burning soul. Fast forward to the present, Gale Anne Hurd and Valhalla Entertainment are teaming up with Toei and All Nippon Entertainment Works to make this movie a reality. One good thing that could come out of this is that we might get the hot blooded feeling that was missing from the first trailer, such as the lively colors. However, seeing how Gale Anne Hurd's experience involves Terminator and Aliens, the colorless design might be there to stay. Besides Hurd, Yoshi Ikezawa and Joseph Chou are going to act as the producers for the movie. But enough talk about the colors, because the important deal breaker in this movie is Gaiking's fighting style. Based on my experience wit the 2005 series, Gaiking abilities can range from firing beams from his chest and eyes, and shooting out massive fire blasts. His strongest attack is Face Open, which grants Gaiking greater speed and power by engulfing itself in golden flames, while casting off the chest and face armor. Judging on what I've mention so far, I am expecting them to go all out with the movie's fight scenes. Based on the press release shown by the folks at Henshin Justice, there's a chance that they are going to do their best to add the things that made Gaiking great. While the movie will most likely be based off of the original series, I wouldn't be too surprised if we see some shout outs to the 2005 Gaiking anime. If handled properly, this movie could be the CG super robot movies to end all robot movies. Dare I say it, but I think that the action sequences could surpass those of the main robot from the upcoming Pacific Rim movie. To those that want to get an idea of what I was talking about in regards to Gaiking's abilities, check out the two openings for the 2005 series in the section after the jump. [via Crunchyroll]
