It seems that a straw has fallen and broken some poor Chocobo’s back (as if they weren’t suffering enough in the Type-0 intro). The intrepid fans at Studio Paint have had enough of Square Enix’s constant teases, non-teases and outright trolls regarding the one thing everyone seems to want from them - a contemporary remake of legendary JRPG Final Fantasy VII.
Now they’ve gone and (partially) remade the game all on their lonesome, using the magic of the free Unreal Development Kit to duplicate Cloud and crew’s opening moments. Check out their video below, and try not to bellow in rage at Square Enix’s continuing recalcitrance.
Why do you continue to refuse to do this, Square Enix?! You’ve done pretty much everything else you can do to the Final Fantasy brand, short of running it into the ground, and even that is a matter of debate! Why not earn a ton of cash and goodwill by revving up Final Fantasy XIII's hair-rendering engines, cobbling together an old game, and selling it to fans and curious onlookers? Even if you don't want to, just do it anyway, if only to shut everyone up.
Hell, it’s not as if you’d have to design it again! Goodness knows some folks don’t trust you to do that sort of thing anymore.*
*For the record, I enjoyed Final Fantasy XIII, and would trust Square Enix with the task of designing games. To an extent.
