First Impressions: Koi to Senkyo to Chocolate

Well this looks right up my alley in many ways. Yet I feel there is something I’m missing too. It has the wackiness that I enjoy along with jokes galore. They are even in a Food Research Club where they eat food all day. This is where the chocolate in the title comes into play. Wasn’t sure if actually meant anything or not but I’m glad it does.

Does this anime have what it takes to keep me occupied enough to keep watching? Let’s share a snack over it as I let you know.

Right of the bat we have something that doesn’t look like it belongs in this anime. It’s kind of a military spy thing that is happening where people are trading info for money. Yet there is one person that is there to catch it in the act. Now, this is not that I thought I was watching. I thought I was watching a show about a student council. Well, actually I am but it’s not that simple. Breaking it down, we have a conspiracy happening in the student council about money and finances. There are some sneaky things going on in the back that will be our main back story of the show. You know the serious part. Moving right along, we have the less serious part with the Food Club going to be disbanded because of this financial crisis that is happening. They will not go down without a fight.

By they, I mean our ragtag bunch that is the heart and soul of this anime. So we have six females with different quirks, one drunk female teacher, one man that swings for the other team, and one more male. Now I know that this is just sounding like a harem anime about to explode but it’s not so far. Not sure if it will head in that direction but all signs point to no. Even if it did some I know that I wouldn’t have that much of a problem with it. Again, that’s just me though.

There are gags galore so far. Sexual innuendos too. These end up being hilarious where I will find myself laughing out loud by it, mainly because I didn’t see it coming. They are pretty quick to sneak something in to make a funny which is pretty awesome. It keeps everything pretty fast paced and you will never get really bored. It kind of takes me back to Baka and Test on the pacing, but not nearly that fast. One other thing that kind of strikes me as a bit odd is that it seems that all of the club members seem to be in on each joke. Most of them just kind of go with it. Instead of just being oblivious about it they actually understand. Like the first meeting on the street corner. That was just something that they just played out just because. Awesome but, huh?

You don’t really get a good grip on everything in this first episode. It seems like there is a deeper meaning to everything that is going on but it’s not giving up any juicy info as of yet. This is good because it is making me want to watch the next episode. I want to understand everyone’s role in this series and I am hungry for more. Also I want them to go through more of those yummy snacks! Might give me some more idea of snacks to try out in the future. They did ruin one for me now and that’s Umaibo. The first snack they try is an Umaibo style snack that one guys says it’s his “yaoi bar”. Well there is an image for you...
