First Impressions: Seikon no Qwaser

First Impressions: Seikon no Qwaser photo

Summary: What the hell: breast-feeding a silver-haired boy so he can gain energy to fight demons and otherworldy monsters.

I don't even know where to start with Seikon no Qwaser (Qwaser of Stigmata). It's like a giant black hole, emerging from dark corners of the anime world to reach out and suck the life from my soul. Let's start at the beginning: there must be a big demand for this fetish, as the manga's been running since 2006. That's four years of breast-feeding and monster fighting (in God's name, of course), and Tokyopop is going to publish it here in America. For the life of me, I can't fathom why an anime would be made instead of a hentai OVA, especially when this first episode is edited to hell and back. Reading about it isn't quite as bad as actually watching it, but it still might be physically painful. If you're up for some torture, click through for more.

Warning: I'm letting the show speak for itself... that means lots of images coming up.

Ignoring the boobs (for a moment, at least), let's take note of the dialogue. Tomo refers to Mafuyu as her Prince Charming repeatedly, not only creating silly sexual connotations (which I'm sure is its intention) but also attempting to establish that Mafuyu takes care of Tomo. But if you take one look at Tomo, we already know she's stuck firmly in the air-headed, bosom-tastic, submissive sexual object position. She's obviously not going to do anything for herself. But that's putting a bit too much thought into this crap already.

image2

When the girls head to school, the two bullies, (the arrogant daughter of the dean and the tomboy, how original) bother Mafuyu, and Tomo steps in, asking them to stop the argument. Somehow, this turns into some sort of hump-fest up against the wall. The pure ridiculousness of this scene (even within the ridiculousness of the show itself) is just an example of how every pose and animation is made to be somehow suggestive. I'll probably end up saying it several times but: if you wanted to make a hentai OVA or something like that THEN MAKE A HENTAI OVA. This just ends up being leashed fanservice that never goes where a viewer would want it to go.

image4

I don't think I really need to say anything about this. They discover a young, silver-haired boy and what do you know? He gropes Tomo.

image5

And this is what you see during the groping. Since they enjoyed the groping (and he was wounded, or something), they take him back to their place.

image6

They seemed pretty confused about the boy's gender and decided that there was only one logical way to solve that mystery. Either way, before they can take off his pan-asonic headphones he runs away. Mafuyu goes looking for him, only to see the church on fire. She rushes inside and finds the serial-killer that has conveniently been mentioned earlier in the episode.

image7

WHAT.

No really, I don't even know what the serial-killer was doing here. She was about to touch Mafuyu or something. The screen pans away, we hear some moans and squeals, then this. I really wish there was more to write about this weirdness, but the screenshot says it all.

image8

Ordained by God to touch your boobs? Maybe I should have gone to ministerial school.

image9

I should note, as far as the first episode goes, this is the closest you get to seeing any skin. Sorry Japan! Maybe the upcoming uncensored airing will satisfy you.

image10

Hot and saucy? I can't really tell, to be honest. The villain pretty much stands around while Sasha "gains energy."

image11

So after Allen Walker defeats the serial-killer in a single hit, he disappears, only to show up at school the following day as the new transfer student. Of course, he's the new Edward and all the girls have to make an impression on him. The annoying tomboy and dean's daughter team up again to bother Sasha, and he decides to melt the table leg, so they fall to the ground.

image12

Somehow, something gets stuck. I really didn't get this scene either. I was about to go into a tirade about how this makes no sense, but then I decided to just save my energy for later. Should I really waste my time on arguing how see didn't even fall in a way that something COULD theoretically get stuck? I could feel the brain cells melting away watching this.

image14

Mafuyu can't believe Sasha just told the two bullies. She even saves that expressions for later.

image13

No, not here, this is pretty normal. He seems pretty enthusiastic about the whole ordeal, though.

image15

Oh, where have I seen you before? Oh yeah, just two minutes ago.

image22

The ending consists of the girls riding in, sitting in, and jumping out of a bathtub to generic-sounding music. Following that, the final scene features all of the girls hopping into the tub, like some kind of reverse clown car. Also, why is the room in black and white, but the reflection on the floor is in color?

What I liked:

  • Um, some of the girls were sorta hot?

What I didn't like:

  • Shoddy animation
  • Poor story, stupid idea mistaken for good one
  • Any actual benefit gained from fanservice never comes to fruition due to heavy editing. Will the uncensored version be better? Probably not.
  • That I watched this thing in the first place.
  • Should have just been hentai anyway and save us all some trouble.
