I was wishy washy on the series but after about 4 episodes someone on ANN mentioned the brutal endings from the game and wondered which one they would use. Then we found out that the finale got bumped for similarities to an axe murder the day before and everyone got even more morbidly excited and then...Nice Boat.

I wasn't following this when it aired, so I got the "ordinary" slaughterfest of an ending. It was very depressing to me, but not in a good way.
Sometimes an anime can fill you with emotion and reduce you to tears (Grave of the Fireflies) and sometimes it just uses a shock factor to cheaply give the story some impact (School Days, Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, etc)
I'm not that appreciative of anime series that are based on games in general...

School Days was only reasonable for about 80% of the first episode. Once Sekai sets him up with Kotonoha she decides to kiss him? Then it just goes absolutely down the toilet in terms of sensibility from there. By the everything goes Higurashi it made so little sense that the impact got cut down quite a bit.
Also, I've tried to watch Grave of the Fireflies no less than 8 times and trail off every attempt. It is some condensed boring right there.

I've seen Grave of the Fireflies numerous times. It has a slow pacing, but I certainly don't find it boring. It's a touching and tragical retelling of WW2. There may not be any goofy gags or shounen action scenes to keep your attention, but the overall story of the movie is compelling and emotionally engaging.
Incidentally, have you seen Barefoot Gen? It may be more to your liking. It's identical thematically, but there's a much bigger emphasis on the contrast between playful young children and the horrific events of WW2.

well this anime comes from an ero-game so the ending happens to be very creepy. Then again it makes sense seeing that Makoto couldn't keep his hands to himself. I remembered when they aired it, it was not blood it was all black for the blood shed. It was one of those series where you ask yourself why you keep watching it... it's like a train wreck.

Throughout School Days, all I could think was, "Wat". Seriously messed up ending that I remember it ruining the whole series for me. Meh.

How exactly does that ending ruin the series? The show is awful. The only reason anyone still talks about it is because of the ending and how ridiculous it is.

I enjoyed it, didnt know it was based on a H-game prior to watching which made a lot of sense when he starts sexing up every one :) You guys call it shallow but what was so shallow about it ?

You mean it's not? It's deep?
You'll really need to illustrate your point before I can even argue about that, because I have no idea where you're coming from.
Having said that, being shallow is the least of School Days' problems.

Given that the only other option would be calling it deep it's shallow by default. But without resorting to that sort of reasoning, the fact that all the characters do dumb things for no reason and the show has no meaning pretty much defines shallowness in story-telling. In the very first episode Sekai kisses Makoto after setting him up with Kotonoha. And by after I mean she says "Enjoy your date! Lets make out for a second though." It's ridiculous.
