I can't believe I'm the one starting this thread. You're gonna have to believe me; I'm not usually like this. But this forum needs another thread to allow serious discussion with serious people and I thought this topic would attract the largest crowds of all shows this season.
So, even though I intended not to, I just watched the first episode of Kyoto's new happy-silly-moe highschool comedy featuring an all-loli cast and because some on Japanator have noted they don't care about (buy)Haruhi(dvd's) anymore after three years, I'd like to ask: how about this? Because K-ON! (all caps, exclamation mark, don't forget) is about as close to Haroohi Too you can get. In fact, I'd say it's a mixture of Lucky Star and Haruhi and that should get at least some of you excited. Roight?
Well, certainly not me, but I'm not going to lie: I did sort of enjoy it. Especially a certain cameo appearance I didn't expect, and some of the things the main character said really got me. Oh, and the girl called Mio. Man, despite the different artstyles, she does look a whole lot like Yomi from Ga-rei. Which also makes her mai waifu. First come first served, bitches! Unless this matter has been discussed on IRC, that is.
So, tell me about your experiences with the show that will undoubtedly rule this season (but not make us forget about Haruhi just yet)!

I watched it the other day, and also liked it. A bit slow at start, but came together nicely. I still kinda want to say it's still missing something, maybe from the atmosphere. But the characters are all mostly great. Main character is too cute for words, almost too cute... But I'll keep watching. 4 high school girls make a band? What can possibly go wrong? :D

The Cameo was nice, but overall the show hasn't hooked me. The characters feel flat and almost identical to Lucky Star's and there isn't an interesting plot to speak of. I'll probably watch the show out of boredom for a little bit, but MOE! isn't enough to make me like a show.

Seriously, when did moe degrade into mentally retarded female.
She was adorable... but I think if I'm exposed to more than 30 seconds of her at a time, I'll begin to loathe her.

Was that a question?

Part question, part sullen acceptance of unavoidable truths... but yes, that was supposed to be a question.

I'm not really a fan of this genre, but people seem to keep talking aboot this series...I'm [this] close to checking it out...But I got to much to watch as it is:
FMA2
Guin Saga
Phantom ~Requiem for the Phantom~
DBZ Kai
(Plenty more)
Not sure if I can fit a show from a genre I'm not a fan of into my watching schedule...Let me know if I am wrong and if later episodes keep up the greatness...

^ yeah, if you want to venture to a different genre, I wouldnt say this one would grab you just yet. If it's gets exponentially better, then we'll let you know.
If you're wandering outside comfortable space, there's defintiely others I'd recommend first. *cough*TORADORA*cough* ;)

I refuse to watch this until the widescreen subs come out

I quite liked this, and not just for the DMC referance ;)
Kind of reminds me of Ichigo Mashimaro with instruments. Which will be good.

Well, it is Kyoto Animation so no matter how this turns out there will be talking about it (and it's going to annoy the fuck out of me).
I'll wait another three weeks for the widescreen versions to air on BSi before I say anything about this. TBS seems to wanna do 4:3 broadcasts at first. That doesn't make that much sense though since both the new FMA and Gundam 00 is/was shown on TBS and in glorious HD too.

I watched K-ON! earlier and based on the first episode it is definitely one i would like to see being released here in the US. But, it could easily go down hill from here.

i think itll be fun, i dont understand why everyone is being so critical of it, yea theres no way its going to be some classic or anything, but im just confused about how people just dont take it for what it is and try to enjoy it rather than point out the flaws

Someone has to do it. Personally, I think I'm just tired of moe in general. My big problem with K-ON is that there doesn't seem to be a hook besides the moe. The characters certainly aren't interesting and there's a damn good chance that any plot will be extremely cliché.
I'm bored enough that I'll continue to watch it and I hope it'll surprise me, but I'm certainly not expecting anything special from it. Despite the fact that it will be a decent watch, I can't see it going beyond mediocrity, which isn't always a bad thing - Druaga was mediocrity incarnate and I thoroughly incarnate. The most annoying thing about K-ON is simply that it's a KyoAni show - no matter how good it actually is, people will think it's the best thing since sliced bread.

This.
There's honestly only one show from Kyoto I can say I enjoyed and that was Haruhi. Hell, it's my least favourite animation studio of all; GONZO, Bee Train and even J.C.Staff have produced more shows I enjoyed. So someone really needs to explain to me why Kyoto can't seem to do any wrong lately. It's really annoying to see how all of their work is instantly overrated, but then again that won't keep me from enjoying a show like K-ON. If it doesn't go the Lucky Star way, that is.

After seeing a couple episodes, K-On! has been entertaining enough so far. Enough, at least, to keep me from writing it off as "the KyoAni project that isn't Haruhi 2." But jeebus, Yui is clinically retarded, even by the standards of moeblobs I've encountered so far. I'll keep watching for now, but she needs some character development, stat. And considering that it's based on a 4-koma, I don't know if that sort of development is in the original material.
Anyway, I expect this show to dominate /a/ and the rest of otakudom for the foreseeable future.
