Oh, and as far as I know we have Len, Gia, Redzie, and myself doing the LB'ing. But Redzie says the show might have too much definition for him... that it might kill his computer.

Time to scrub that one from my memories

Man, episode 3 just helps cement this series as an instant classic to me...
Is this a 13 or 26 episode series??
I felt like I read/heard it was a 13 episode series...

According to MAL, it's 11 episodes. So, only 8 episodes left to introduce ten other seleçao and explain to us what the SHIT is going on.
I mean, I like the show, but there's eight episodes left and what do we know? Better brace for disappoint.

The movie version of the TV series and the first of two sequels already hit theatres, with the final movie hitting in March.
As for the DVD/Blu-rays (aka quality raws + fansub), I have no idea when to expect those. I always assume there's 9 months between releases, so prepare to wait a little while longer.

So now that this is out stateside and both movies are out on DVD/Bluray in Japan, I'd like to get back into discussing this title again.
I actually downloaded the first movie King of Eden a couple of months ago, watched it for two minutes, decided I didn't feel like watching any more and threw the file out. But with all the ads for EotE on the site, I decided I'd rewatch episode 11 to remind myself what the show was about, and then give the movies another try (and this time the ending, where Takizawa announces he wants to be "King", got me a bit more interested).
The first movie still wasn't that exciting though. The namesake of the show, the visual recognition program and the "professional NEETs" in charge of it, has never interested me in the least because the characters behave like what must be aliens. So you can imagine I wasn't pleased by how big their role was in this story, now that they went toe to toe with Juiz. Of course all of this could've been mighty interesting if it didn't just end with Juiz using h4xx0rz and calling it a day. Apart from that, Takizawa erasing his memory before meeting up with Saki was not only pointless, but also made all of their moments together very awkward to watch. At this point I cared about as much about their relationship as I care about what colour of underwear I'm wearing.
Selecao 06 was also introduced as a joker of sorts and as such he didn't contribute to the story in any significant way. Also number 10 is still in the race in some way but I don't really know what that means and forget what he did before besides sucking number 01's lollipop. The biggest event was of course number 01's missiles taking out 3 Selecao by blowing up their respective Juiz' (who are apparently working from trucks conveniently numbered I through XII), but this scene, which was supposed to be the cherry on the King of Eden-pie, pretty much lost all its coolness because I had no idea what was actually happening until after the scene had passed and they explained it to me. And when they did I immediately asked myself "why the hell didn't he take them all out now he had the chance!?". But then again the answer to that question could be anything because I still don't know what drives the man in the first place. So in the end it's a movie without much of a highlight.
Second movie, then. Number 01 tries to take out the other trucks after all. Oh. Okay. Juiz turns out to be an AI. And Ato Saizo's granddaughters seem to be travelling along with the trucks and seem surprisingly cheerful after a bunch of missiles destroyed three of them. And Number 12 turns out to be an old man in a taxi who is also Mr. Outside and probably the "supporter". He also kicks Hirasawa's ass. At this point the show is pulling things out of its ass without even trying to justify it. There's also this other Selecao on a boat who's desperately trying to have any sort of impact on the story, but fails to because halfway through the story the writers realized it would be too much to make all 12 Selecao important. So instead the only major players at this point are numbers 01 and 09. Meanwhile Takizawa finds out who his mother is and that he's really Iinuma's son and doesn't even bat an eyelid as our main character is famous for having no semblance of emotion - and that is assuming he has emotions in the first place. But of course later on it's revealed that he is not actually Iinuma's son. Uhhuh.
Then Takizawa gets into a discussion with number 01 and finds out he's not fit to be the Prime Minister since he doesn't know what a Home Ministry does. Took him long enough. Then number 01 says he should be the Prime Minister instead, and despite number 01 having been his mortal enemy throughout the series, Takizawa thinks this is a great idea. But then Takizawa realizes number 01 is not a hippie like himself and shouldn't be Prime Minister for a lack of love and peace in his ideologies.
Then Takizawa has a better idea to solve all of Japan's problems: he announces all the old people in Japan have to give their belongings to the NEETs of Japan or he will bomb the country. And so they do. And then all is well. This also leads the first lady of Japan to trust Takizawa completely, someone who she should still believe to be a terrorist.
I'm terribly sorry, but this is not how the real world works. I'd likely be more disturbed by all the ideological implications of the story if it made any freaking sense at all. It's nowhere near as clever as it would like to be. In fact Eden of the East is similar to Code Geass in that respect. But at least Code Geass had robots and a more lively collection of characters.
edit: Just noticed the Japanator review is up. Glad to see someone agrees.

Can you please condense your review to manga form? I'm too tired to take all that in right now;)
