I love japanese cells phones and have always wanted one. I want to know if anyone has had any experience with them or even if they would work over here (I’m in the UK). Also if they do work abroad what networks do they work on? thanks

From what I know I don't think they work outside of Japan, but I'm really stupid when it comes to cell phones. I always wanted that Zeon Char phone

Man, I want a Crazy Spacephone. Unfortunately for us, their wireless technology (and network technology in general) is ages ahead of ours. We're too far behind to have interchangeable phones.

They'll work fine in the UK as they use the same radio band for 3G service, but it can be a hassle to find and get one unlocked in the conventional manner.
Recently, there's been a trend moving away from unlocked phones to using dummy Japanese SIM cards pasted onto active cards that are usually sold under the name HyperSIM, Inex, et al.
What these cards allow you to do is fool the phone into functioning as it would in Japan, with the SIM card of your provider. Different dummy cards are made for different phone models and vary in price.
I would recommend going here: HowardForums Japanese Phones Forum (http://www.howardforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=418) to get started.
Phone prices average 250-300 pounds before additional costs for dummy cards and activation.
I personally have a W44S, W51T, and the W51CA from KDDI AU in Japan, and I'm getting two of the Nerv-Only models from DoCoMo.
