so soon I'm finally gonna watch Haruhi (slowpoke, I know), but I'm wondering which would be the best way to watch it
dubbed and in order or subbed and out of order (the way it was originally broadcast)
I'm not sure I want to watch it out of order though since it would be a pain switching out all the dvds and stuff instead of just watching it in order

Personally, I would watch it subbed and out of order. If you really don't want to watch it in the broadcast order, I would at least watch it subbed. While it isn't a bad dub by any means, it just doesn't live up to the Japanese voice actors' performance. I'd really recommend taking the time to watch it in the original order - I think you lose some of the all-important strangeness of the series if you see it in chronological order, not to mention that the climax is in totally the wrong spot.

I agree: subbed and broadcast order. Simply because that's how the plot develops, and that's the whole magic of Haruhi: trying to figure out how all these things coalesce. If you take that out and watch it in a linear fashion, it becomes quite a bit more boring.
Also, I love Kyon's Japanese voice, and the dubbed voice just couldn't replace that for me. So, that's why I say subbed. I have friends who watched it dubbed and they loved the English voices, but if you're actively thinking about it, I say go for the Japanese.

Give all dubs a chance. Don't listen to what anyone says about Christina Vee being more appropriate for the lead character. If she was more appropriate, they would have cast her instead.
I argue for the linear order because there simply isn't a good reason for the completely arbitrary order given above. I found it nigh unwatchable trying to work out why characters and plot points keep dropping in and out without any explanation. "Because Haruhi said so" is not a justification. Also, "The Adventures of Mikuru Asahina Episode 00" isn't part of the series, so you don't have to watch it at all.

No, but it is a fun if you read the the manga first and you start with it:D

I'm with excel on the order. I also think you should give the dub a chance since it is quite good. Perhaps you should watch both versions. Just wait like 6 months (or whenever you're in the mood again) or something to watch the track you didnt chose.

i just made a forum account here for the sole purpose of responding to the quoted complete and utter garbage.
1) there is an EXTREMELY VALID reason for the broadcast order aside from making the show more intellectually stimulating -
the final episode chronologically is a day in which, literally, NOTHING HAPPENS.
the final episode in the broadcast order is one of the most epic moments of the entire story.
i dont know why you'd throw out some reasoning of "just because haruhi said so" when that has nothing to do with it. the broadcast order is more entertaining, that's why it was broadcast in that order.
2) you claim that the first episode (adventures of mikuru) has nothing to do with the show. excuse me? did you even WATCH the show? if you did in fact watch the show and you still honestly believe that episode had nothing to do with the story, then im afraid you didnt understand the story one bit.
that episode even references things that dont take place until the movie, The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, and references COUNTLESS things that happen throughout the show as well.
it was the PERFECT episode to start the show with, you just dont realize it on your first viewing.
i think you should go back and actually watch Haruhi Suzumiya, since it's one of the greatest stories ever told, and you clearly have not experienced it.
