So yeah, KnT 7 nearly killed me. I'm so glad the episode was drama-free, after all that heart-wrenching that went on with the last several episodes. I can't wait to watch this episode again with some of my friends.

It was awesome, like reading a chapter of Yotsuba with the nonstop smiles.
I just had to replay the part where Yano was messing with Kazehaya, that was brilliant.

Is it wrong that I'm hoping that Kurumi will fall down a well and die before she's even been properly introduced?

@Karen: it is very wrong. We're not entirely sure she's evil. What if it turns out she has a crush on Sadako? Now that would be a very interesting love triangle.

Well I stand corrected. This most recent episode implies the rage that is starting to grow in Kurumi.
P.S. Sadako kicking the rock around is quite possibly the cutest thing they've done in the series so far.

It's not like she'll be able to do anything. After all, Sawako is clearly the One Piece, and Kazehaya (who's the spitting image of Monkey D. Luffy) won't take his eyes off the prize for anyone or anything. We all know that.

I've never really understood why there's a huge importance on the names you use has in Japan.
I guess it's just a western culture perspective thing.
Also, I love how the music underlies Kurumi's motive when she tries to talk Sawako out of talking to Kazehaya anymore. That girl needs to be put in her place soon.

Finally caught up on this show today- oooohhhh, Kurumi went too far this time. She's been pretty good up until now about being too subtle to be outed easily, but telling Kazehaya outright lies that can and will be contradicted by many people?
I like the fact that this will probably be dealt with in the form of Ayane doing something to screw Kurumi over. I can see Ayane thinking "Now I will show you what it really means to be a manipulative bitch, you amateur."
seltzermx
12-31-2009, 05:56 PM
Yeah, too many lies, and very easily disproven by Ryu (I mean, come on, he doesn't even know her name), among others.
And I'm not sure Ayane will interfere. They keep hinting that Sawako isn't as meek as we initially thought, so I think she might actually settle things by herself, or at least the current situation they're in.

I'm happy enough that she managed to acknowledge her feelings, even if it was only in an internal monologue.
Sawako is so foreign to things like love, it sometimes becomes a bit unrealistic and frustrating. With 10 episodes to go though, I think we've got enough to look forward to if the love is already acknowledged at this point.

Knowing Sawako is probably going to forgive Kurumi makes me annoyed. It shows she's a better person than me but I knew Kurumi was a bitch from the instant they showed her skulking around and really enjoyed watching her get hers the past few episodes.

Anyway I hope her and Sawako eventually become friends through their rivalry.
When Funi licenses Kimi ni Todoke I'm going to pre-order the DVDs day one. Hopefully they'll give us some delicious blu-ray as well. Sure nothings been said about the anime getting licensed but we've already got the manga so hopefully if that does well Funi, or someone else, will pick it up.

I want to dislike Kurumi more but if I had a legitimate reason to she'd be badly written. I don't like her because she's a conniving manipulative...whatever, but she has redeeming qualities as well and would be a really strong character if she got out of Sawako's way.

I'm all caught up now: Snowed in +unlimited hot coffee +Kimi ni Todoke marathon= AMAZING.
I think the episodes dealing with Kurumi's character did a good job of getting you to understand her without making excuses for what she did. Like, I understand now why she is the way she is, but I didn't get the feeling that the show was hitting me over the head with how wronged she had been and I needed to have sympathy for her, etc. etc. etc. I can understand her without rationalizing away all of the shit that she pulled.
The thing that really surprised me was that when Kurumi said "I'm so much more in love with him than you are" to Sawako, I totally believed it- in a way Kurumi needs him more. Sawako sees the best in people, thus she and Kazehaya are alike that way; Kurumi sees the worst in people, so she needs to believe very badly that a good person like Kazehaya might care about her. Furthermore, in a way Sawako "used" Kurumi when she confessed her feelings to her, giving credence to Kurumi's earlier comment that everyone uses everyone else.
I didn't get the little elf-dudes in episode 16, but on the whole I'm still madly in love with this show.

Yeah, 18 was definitely heartbreaking.
Ryuu's great, and you cant help wish the best for him. My guess is they would go one or two ways with this:
POSSIBLE SPOILERS
1. Chizu starts dating Ryuu's brother, is happy, and Ryuu is simply happy that she is happy
2. Ryuu's brother shows up with new girlfriend/fiance/wife, Chizu is heartbroken, Ryuu consoles (or not). Ryuu jumping in right away after a heartbreak would be awkward. Something making Chizu realize she loves Ryuu just as much or more would be nice.
END POSSIBLE SPOILERS
Whichever way they take it, it will be interesting. i would think any option needs to be very precise with no room for errors. Of course, knowing KnT, I have no fear that they'd screw up. :D

Hmmmm, not annoying, but awkward to see it being used that way. Like, why pick up that holiday given its meaning? Valentines sure; its about expressing love and blah blah blah (and commercialism now). But given Christmas' religious origins/purpose, its just strange to see it being adopted.
Mandril
03-12-2010, 05:32 AM
I really like the japanese interpretation of christmas! If I can believe the anime shows I've seen, it's about giving something personal to those you love instead of the commercialised american version.
I also really like Japanese valentines day, which is all about giving away chocolates to people you (even slightly) like.
Anyway, about this week's episode, you can quite clearly tell Sawako has grown much less insecure than she previously was, but there's still a long way to go.
I hope Kazehaya stops saying "HHMMM" ('Yes') while nodding/smiling to everything Sawako says, because that makes me want to punch his face off. All in all I'm just desperately waiting on some major plot progression.
MarlinClock
03-12-2010, 06:49 AM
I don't see how that's that much different from the commercialized version, I mean as far as I've seen from anime Christmas(besides Big O) you never see hide nor tail of Jesus, y'know, the reason there's a holiday to begin with?
I guess this is just me being a grumpy Catholic.
Mandril
03-12-2010, 09:52 AM
The reason I'd call something commercialised is because every american seems to recieve 500 dollar in gift cards every christmas (atleast, that's what I hear every year). Commercialised christmas is, in my eyes, an evening where the family gets together and everyone is obligated to splash the cash and buys expensive gifts for no particular reason.
It's not like it's one or the other. Christmas can be non-religious without being commecialised. From what I've seen in anime (which may be a bad standard to base my assumptions on, but whatever) Japanese christmas is much more personal, mostly about having a great time with the person(s) you love. For example, the only gifts Sawako gives are homemade, the only thing she requests is a pencilcase. Her dad decides to give some more, but that probably has alot to do with her birthday being the week after...
From what I can tell, Japanese christmas is their most romantic day of the year (not valentines day) atleast, that's what romantic/drama animes always lead up to >.<

I guess this is just me being a grumpy Catholic.
For better or for worse, Christmas has an existence now that's completely apart from Jesus. Jesus doesn't really play a role in my life, but Christmas absolutely does, and it's like that for millions upon millions of people.
I'm not saying it's right, or that you're wrong for feeling that your holiday has been co-opted, but Christmas means so many different things to different people at this point that seeing it completely divorced from Christianity doesn't surprise me.
@Mandril: You want to PUNCH Kazeyhaya??? LET'S FISTICUFFS.
Mandril
03-13-2010, 10:15 AM
Yeah, because Kazehaya responds to everything Sawako says with that dumb exaggerated smile on his face. I guess this is a minor pet peeve, but there are more subtle and realistic ways to show that Kazehaya appreciates Sawako's company.
Sometimes they're just making Kazehaya a bit too much like Prince Charming, which I think is a wrong way to approach things. I'd rather have a more dramatic and realistic show rather than a female wish-fulfillment fantasy.
When they hint towards Kazehaya's weaknesses, those are my favorite moments in the show (they've eluded several times to the fact that Kazehaya loses control over himself in romantic/tense situations).

Well, I love the Chizu arc.. Ryu's brother is a bishie type of guy.. He's really handsome.. Now wonder why Chi fell for him.. But I feel bad for Chi, but glad that Ryu's always there to support her whenever she needs a shoulder to cry on..

Alright, if this doesn't end with her knocked up, I am going to be extremely dissapointed in this series.

Alright, if this doesn't end with her knocked up, I am going to be extremely dissapointed in this series.Pretty much... This series is getting way too sweet for my tastes. I don't mind a heartwarming romantic tale, but sometimes it's just way too fake and slowly paced. I demand payoff in the next episode. A kiss and a hug, a straightforward confession of love and devotion, if the last episode doesn't deliver then Sawako's entire path from loner to charming princess loses all its value, and the show falls in the water along with it.

Hmmm..... kind of dissapointing finale I guess. It had its cute moments and whatnot, but nothing really happened. Heck, they came a lot closer than this in that Pin episode where they almost kiss at the end.

Almost seems like they're setting up for a second season.

Typical non-committal ending. Sure, they could, but they're not going to. Time to go pick up all the manga...

At least there is the manga, rather that than it end ambiguously for no reason.
