Chicks And Anime, A Rare Breed?

Howdy all, I've always wondered so I figured I'd ask. It seems like so many fans of the genre usually end up being dudes, I was curious just how many of you are of the female persuasion.

I have no idea where you got this impression. At least where I live, more than half of the anime fans (or at least the obvious ones) are girls between the age of 14 and 29.

around where I live the ratio is more like 7 or 8 dudes to one chick. I suppose a better question to have asked would be the distibution of female to male fans in any given area. It seems though that most places I go the ratio is never better than 2/3 dudes to 1/3 chicks. I guess that means I just need to get out more to different areas :D

I'd say when it comes to anime the ratio of males to females is pretty much 50/50

now with video games I'd say that even though there are more and more "girl gamers" as time goes by there are still more males that play video games

Male and female anime fandom probably doesn't overlap as much as you'd expect. I think from a female fan's perspective it would seem like fangirls outnumber the fanboys too.

And if anime was be a male thing, why are they called "girl cartoons"?

Ditto. It's about a 60/40 female/male ratio at my university's anime club, even.

well like I said I guess I just need to get out to different places with a better ratio. It's nice to know that most places have a balanced groiuping of fans.

Japanator's readership is 72% Male/28% Female. Just a fun fact. Destructoid's is 98% Male, while Tomopop's is about 50/50

I'm lucky enough to know as many girls into Anime as I do guys, to say nothing of female cosplayers, J-Drama addicts and J-pop fangirls. Going to conventions and meeting people is a wonderful thing.

well, over here in Malaysia, i'd say that there are more boys watching animes than girls.. so i guess its really depends on the place.

i'm a girl and it's pretty sad when you dont have anime friends to talk to =[ most of them were boys here....

haruhi suzumiya SOS, bleach, naruto, school rumble, jigoku shoujo, tears to tiara , paradise kiss, etc.

wow I don't know where you get this impression, I too am a girl that just loves everything like anime, to manga, to figurines, to video games. It's a big part of me and I know a lot of girls that will agree with me that they love anime as well. I'm not talking about mainstream stuff. I say it depends where you are and who you talk to.
