FUNimation nabs Soul Eater

Finally FUNimation grabbed a series worth grabbing on to, I don’t count any of those series that were already licenced; we call that regifting FUNimation! Anyways FUNimation today grabbed the shonen anime Soul Eater. This isn’t really surprising since FUNimation loves the shonen more than it loves any other type of anime; so we all know FUNimation will treat this show right.

Their plans with it are to release the series in four half-season sets beginning late 2009. Wait, late 2009? That’s like in a year! Who knows if the world will still be around in a year; two words: super asteroids! Though there might be a catch, if this series ends up with a television release, we might see it sooner. Soul Eater, like most other shone anime, would be a perfect match for television. Take a look at the press release after the jump.

Flower Mound, TX – December 31, 2008 – FUNimation® Entertainment today announced that it has acquired home entertainment, broadcast, digital, mobile and merchandise rights to the 51-episode action anime series Soul Eater from Media Factory.

The soul-hunting action series is directed by Takuya Igarashi (Ouran High School Host Club).

About Soul Eater
Unapologetically surreal and action-packed, Soul Eater is the tale of living weapons who team with human masters to hunt evil souls. Only after these dark forces are consumed can these partners hope to join the ranks of the famed Death Scythes.

Maka and her weapon, Soul, are among the new students at a university run by Death himself. As they learn the ways of collecting souls, this fresh class of reapers must work together to keep witches, werewolves, and zombies from unleashing evil upon the world.
FUNimation Entertainment will release the series in four half-season sets beginning in late 2009.

God, I fucking love Excalibur. He's the best anime character since Mechazawa.

I could see this being on Adult Swim.

I hope that they let us see a "test dub" like what they did w/ Keroro Gunso/Sgt. Frog. It's nice seeing anime companies that listen to us & ask for our opinions.

I agree with Zeouterlimits, Soul Eater doesn't hold a candle to the awesomeness of the Eva announcement.

His improvised name is Free. Incidentally, Free also forgot his name after serving centuries in prison.

If it does get a TV release, it will probably be on either SciFi or Adult Swim. Almost guranteed for the FUNimation channel. Oh well, if I have to wait, I can wait.

I wish Dish had the FUNimation channel.

& I REALLY hope that Soul Eater doesn't show on SciFi. I prefer the show to be almost uncut, unedited, & w/ only 1 commercial break instead of a bunch.

I agree with Zonic. SciFi gets these good shows(Gurren Lagann, Gundam Double-O, Dead Leaves) and has all these edits and commercials. At least they show two a week, that's nice.
