Hey guys, you know that kee-raaaaazy Gackt character? Y'know, the Japanese singer whose nuttiness rivals that of our King of Pop (only with far fewer kid touching accusations)? The one with fangirl hordes who buy into his crazy persona hook, line, and sinker? The guy who is trying to save the world with help from his designer dog?
Yeah, that Gackt!
Well, up until this point, Gackt hasn't really made a huge, mainstream splash stateside, but that might be changing soon. Japanese news sources have scooped Gackt's role in an upcoming film, Bunraku, which is also rumored to feature co-star names like Demi Moore and Ron Perlman. The movie, which is currently taping in Romania, is written and directed by Guy Moshe, who has also done... uh.... next to nothing. Oh dear. While Japanese news sources are saying that this is Gackt's "Hollywood debut," all the information about the movie I've dug up so far give off a distinct scent of indie-ness. Somehow I doubt this is really going to put Gackt in the international spotlight, but who knows, we could wind up having another Juno on our hands.
Oh, who am I kidding? Gackt's last "acting" gig, the Japanese film Moon Child (which he starred in alongside L'Arc~en~Ciel vocalist Hyde) was awful, and not even in the "so bad it's hilarious" sort of way. Unless Gackt has taken some quality acting lessons from SNL's Master Thespian, this probably isn't going to be much better.
(Watch me be wrong when Gackt wins an Academy Award in 2010.)
I think we have another Bridget fiasco on our hands here.
