Gaiking CG teaser trailer needs more color, less grit photo

Look, I know that we don't really see the future the same way now that we did thirty years ago, but there's got to be a better way to modernize classic mecha designs that does not involve sandblasting all the color off and exposing all the interior panels. There's just got to!

That seems to be what's happened with the latest CG Gaiking trailer, which you can see below. Now, I like the rest of what's been done to the design. They managed to preserve the key features like the skull and horns, and that's already more than can be said for the Transformers remake designs. But really, guys, put the paint back on.

What do you think?

I DONT KNOW ABOUT YOU GUYS BUT THAT LOOKS DAMN SEXY

ok know the colour (problem) i dont see it when i think of a cockpit thats about howd i would imagin it not too flashy but it still has tha 'pop' factor
This looks killer!
gotta see the fighting animation first before forming conclusion.
Actually, that looks pretty badass. I approve!
I dunno. It reminds me of desert camo, which is pretty hot. Better than looking like a toddler's prefabricated playground equipment.
Actually, I'm kind of happy to see a modern design sensibility brought to a classic franchise. They did the same thing with the Space Battleship Yamato movie.
So is it gonna be a re envisioning like Legend of Daiku Maryu or is it gonna be a remake of the 70s version? I can't wait to see it when it does Face Open. Though it lacks its tones of red.
I don't think it looks too gritty, it looks a lot less "realistic" than Transformers.
i think it makes more sense to have it not be all colorful when something rises from under ground. however i do not know what gaiking is, so maybe thats how it always comes and is always colorful? i dont know. looks pretty badass though.
Looks great to me, I would happily pay to watch this.
Actually, I use the world "actually" a lot. ^_^
First of all, this look pretty damn awesome. I'm definitely looking forward to this. But I can see where Josh is coming from. Let's be honest, no matter how badass you make a modern mech look, this one is clearly a Super Robot design, not Real Robot design. On a Real Robot like Armored Cores, some of the less flamboyent Gundams, and Arm Slaves, it makes sense that they're grey/black/brown.

But Super Robots? If it doesn't have a flashy primary color somewhere on it, something isn't right. And I'd like to someone try and tell me that Gaiking isn't a Super Robot.
Whoops, for some reason pressing the Enter key posted the comment.

Anyways, I'm not saying it needs to be completely red, blue, and yellow, but a few splashes of color here and there probably wouldn't hurt.
wow. Cool. I think it looks better without colour.
It may look cool and realistic without color, specially if you're not a fan o haven't seen the original.... but think about it: what would you feel if someone releases a realistic Gurren Lagann movie, and they make the TTGL gray and brown, and cut the chest sunglasses just for realism sake?

Or if they do the same in the often promised (I don't know if it already turned into vapor) Evangelion movie?

It's just not the same without the colors. If you already ditched realism enough to add the big horns and chest skull (what's their purpose, apart from getting in the way and giving the enemy more surfaces to grab?), then a little bit of color for the old fans can't hurt.
Besides, if you're shooting for realism, here's an engineer's look at mecha designs: http://www.denbeste.nu/Chizumatic/tmw/mechas.shtml

A realistic mecha would have to be like the first image on that page (that's from Divergence Eve, great and underrated anime)... anything larger or fancier than that, and you're already getting into "a wizard did it" territory.
umm looks 1/2 CG 1/2 live action is this true to anyone else?
@ earendil.... Wow that guy just bashed my dreams of mech warfare in one fail swoop... im not sure if everything he said was correct but he sure as shit made a believer out of me. Damn those engineers!
that's beautiful
Gee-Man is right.

This looks much more like generic-FPS-for-Xbox360 than super robots.
As awesome as that video, I agree that it's annoying how they feel the need to make everything dark or gritty. Some things don't have to be so serious to be made into a modern movie (any of the Sean Connery Bond movies vs. the current ones for example. He's not as interesting without the charm or the humor.)
@Earendil
Engineers aren't aren't too smart at times. They also said the helicopter would never fly.

Anyway sweet trailer. The lack of color is probably a good thing. The way I see it the questions that could or would come to mind is: How do they paint that? How much paint is necessary to paint it? Do they just have a paint factory constantly making paint for that purpose? I 'd hate to be the guy to buff and wax it.
needs more flames ala Optimus Prime in my opinion
I remember when "GunHed" wowed me back in the day. This did the same. I definitely want to see it.
give the mecha 1/10th the color from the chick and it'll be so vibrant it'll give ya seizures....

seriously why is she blue?

and i loled how the ground breaking up was obviously a small model with tiny plastic cars.
