Given that the mainstream movie world's latest objective has been to butcher your childhood of late, it's not surprising to know that there's a Ghost in the Shell live-action adaptation in the works. Nobody knew too much about it (debate is still up on whether it's live-action or "3D 'live-action'"), but one more thing you now know is that the film has a screenplay, which in turn will have an author.
The author in question is a lady named Laeta Kalogridis, who is also apparently writing James Cameron's Battle Angel Alita adaptation. Kalogridis also wrote the screenplays for the Macedonian conqueror movie Alexander and Native-American-Viking movie Pathfinder. Not too promising at first glance, but she also wrote Nightwatch, which I liked. She's also working with Martin Scorsese on his new thriller Shutter Island.
It's a toss-up to see how this will compare to the multiple other adaptations of Shirow's manga. Will it take the cyborg cop-drama tack of the Standalone Complex series, or replicate the plodding pace of Mamoru Oshii's films? Or will it end up like G.I. Joe *shudder*?
So many other franchises they could mess around with, why this one?
and Kalogridis is not a big help in placating me either...
