The first Ghost in the Shell movie, much like the original Star Wars trilogy, has gotten a digital makeover. Instead of blush and lipstick, we get new computer graphics and pretty explosions. Not only will it be enhanced visually, but the audio will get a brush-up as well. Skywalker Sound will be doing a 6.1 mix for the film, recording a new soundtrack using Kenji Kawai’s original music, and re-recording the voice actors.
However, some of the seiyuu will not be returning. In this rendition, the Puppet Master will be played by Yoshiko Sakakibara, who was Harraway in Ghost in the Shell 2. This film will play in Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, and Sapporo on July 12. Even though this makeover seems unnecessary, I can’t help but feel excited for it once again. Let’s hope that this film can get a chance to wow audiences in American theaters.
But best of all: Naked Major Kusanagi in 3D!!!! (hopefully…)
