While starting to schlep around for news for Nokori over on Destructoid, I came across this story from Famitsu. Apparently the staff from The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi will be overlooking production of the Wii game that is tentatively sharing the same title as the show.
In this game, you'll be playing as Kyon, while the SOS brigade is off on a cruise adventure. Kyon and his little sister were called to the harbor by Haruhi, who apparently won a bunch of cruise tickets in a lottery. So now that Kyon and the rest of the brigade is trapped on the boat with Haruhi, he needs to find some way to escape the hellish torture of the SOS brigade's leader in this adventure game.
On the bad side, Sankaku Complex reports on these posters which detail some slight changes to Suzumiya Haruhi no Gekidou -- namely the dancing part, which was the main attraction for the whole game, has been cancelled. So, what's going in the dancing game's place, seeing as it's supposed to come out in November? A bunch of mini-games!
Specifically, Nagato Viewer, Suzumiya Haruhi's Fortune Telling, Mikuru Remo-con, a baseball minigame, and some other things. Clearly, Nagato viewer is going to be the next killer app for the Wii, where you get to sit and watch Yuki do stuff. Really? Really? I'm sorry, but that's about as disappointing as seeing Nintendo show off Wii Music. Except, y'know, no one making a fool out of themselves on the drums.
I have to ask: Why did they ditch the dancing game? Not enough songs available? They realized the mechanic was horribly flawed? Well, Gekidou looks like it'll be heading straight for an iceberg, but we'll just have to wait and see how the reviews turn out. I'd love to try it myself, but modding the Wii isn't a task that I'm up to...yet.
