News about Ponyo has really been making the rounds here recently, and so we may as well keep things going. With the Japanese DVD release of Ponyo coming up on July 3rd, Studio Ghibli has been out to promote the film in some...interesting ways. Like, for example, releasing Ponyo into the tanks at the Osaka Aquarium.
Ponyo is actually just a plastic model that's being pulled around by a wire string, kind of like a fishing lure. Of course, it's in the tank with the manta rays and sharks. Y'know, things that could actually eat it.
This would be great to see here in the U.S.: pick the top 5 largest aquariums across the country, set up a little Ponyo critter swimming amongst the fish, and then at the gift shop or such, have a little display promoting Ponyo. C'mon, Disney, you have the clout to make this happen.
