The Gundam Big Expo occured at the Tokyo Big Sight in Odaiba on August 21st to the 23rd. I'm pretty late to the party in regards to posting my report on the expo but that's what happens when you have school starting literally the day after you arrive back home. Many of you have already seen several news posted that came from ths expo, like with the confirmed news about the Gundam UC anime.
I'm sure plenty of you have seen the pictures that were taken at the expo but because you love me more since I'm one of your writers here at Japanator, I'm going to give you the better report of my experience at my very first Gundam Expo. Follow me through the jump to read my experience, as well as a video tour in the "History of Gundam" zone area!
From what you can see on the floor plan, there are two different colors on the map. The blue area was free, which was where the store and figures/gunpla (you can see my coverage of that over at Tomopop) were, and the red area was where you had to get in with a ticket. Tickets could be purchased ahead of time but we didn't really bother to do that. As you know, these kind of events usually have exclusives so we headed to the area where they were selling the gunpla.

The funny thing is, this was only part of the line. It ended up all the way back into one of the hallways that you walk through and it merged into this line. In this picture, we were at the front of this line before the stair case. It went down the stair case and looped around inside where the store was. The waiting was nothing compared to Comiket and I was thankful they didn't make us stand in hot sun.
When you got to the main area, the lines looped inside again. Through that line, they had the gunpla on display that were being sold (I got my hands on the clear 1/60 Exia shown above). Eventually you'll get to some tables where you were given a ticket. That ticket was pretty much the guarantee that the gunpla belonged to you so you could leave to do something else instead of waiting in the purchasing lane.

Next to the merchandise area, there were tables were you could build gunpla! Unless you're under four feet tall and could be considered a child, you weren't allowed to be in this area. If anything, it's a good excuse to get your child into Gundam; or, could have kidnapped a child so you could be in this area.
We followed a line to purchase our tickets to wait in yet another line to get inside to the "History of Gundam" zone. The wait wasn't too terrible but I was honestly tired of being in so many lines on this Japan trip. All the amazing things from this expo were pretty well hidden so after turning the corner to see some amazing things jump started the excitement.

This was the display to the beginning of the awesome things to come ahead. Epic music was playing quite loudly while Gundam scenes were being displayed on the televisions. To the right of this display is where the "History of Gundam" zone began.

The line was so backed up because people were pretty much eating crap at the beginning. I'll admit that the feeling when I first walked into this area was pretty damn cool but to think that the long line we waited in was because people just wouldn't move from this first area (there were better things to see up ahead).

This kind of display could be found all inside the zone area. Every single Gundam series had this -- a picture of the main Gundam from the series, as well as a picture to the right of it.

There was a ton of cel arts for many of the series. To be honest, I don't even know if I was allowed to take pictures of them but I guess I could say I risked it just so I can share them with all of you. There are a couple of more in the gallery if you want to check them out.

These displays were seriously the coolest parts of the entire thing. There was one in almost every area but sadly, not every single Gundam series had a huge Gundam. This was only the beginning of them because, really, they got better the more you walked inside.

This is what I meant. I jizzed so hard that I think I jizzed a second time when I saw this. The lighting changed different colors so you can see some of the glowing parts better. I would kill a person to take this kind of thing home, especially the Wing Zero.

Another great thing they did in this zone was have the gunpla match up with their Gundam pilot. It was almost impossible to get in front of these displays around the area so hovering over people was the best way to see anything so I apologize for not taking the best picture of it.

As soon as you get out of that one area, you end up walking into the small area about SD Gundam. I have never really seen much of any of the SD Gundam anime and whatnot but it seems that there are a good amount of people who don't really give a flying flip about them. Regarldess, it's part of Gundam history and it was part of the expo. It seems to be more of an appeal for children, anyways.

To the left of the exit from the "History of Gundam" zone, there was a massive display case of every single Gundam game ever made. They also had televisions playing the game and the year written on the top. There were some games available to be played, as well as the Gundam simulation game.

This is the stage area that you pass by when you're leaving the area. This is where the seiyuu events were, which I couldn't really stay for. At this time, they had the voice actors from Gundam 00. I enjoyed hearing the voice actors for Allelujah and Lockon (Hiroyuki Yoshino was pretty loud, too). There was one area near by that was impossible for me to get to and that was where they displayed every single gunpla that was made. They were in display cases with the years written above. I'm disappointed that I couldn't experience it but people were practically hovering over that wall. I'm sure that walls were probably full of semen, anyways.
If I could have gone the other two days, I would have. The expo was really a lot of fun and I regret missing the events and certain areas. I hope you could feel my experience through my pictures and my descriptions. If the pictures aren't enough, you can watch a video that was taken of the massive history zone. I will warn you that some parts may be rushed and annoying to watch but my boyfriend had to run through people and my camcorder was running out of time. Until next time, mission completed!
*(respectful silence)*
I haven't even gotten to the second video yet, but Saku, you have single-handedly made my day.
After seeing all this, I can't even say what insane things I would've done to go to it in person.
