Halo Legends coming in February to Blu-ray with irony photo

Halo is quite the game series, originally "the little Mac FPS that could," eventually becoming Xbox's killer game, creating a perfect storm of green-clad space marines in the console realm. Plus, its innovation in controls really helped create the 200X's boom of console shooters. When we heard it was getting an anime, we were a little surprised -- and when we heard of the talent behind it, even more so. It's actually pretty good, so if you're a fan I recommend checking it out -- it also aired a few episodes on Xbox Live for a day or two, so you may have caught it there.

But most people have been awaiting the DVD and Blu-ray release, perhaps the most ironic Blu-ray I've seen in a while. Play the Halo anime on my PS3? Yes please! Luckily, our PS3s will be able to welcome in Halo on February 9th, 1010 in America, and February 16th in Japan. A recent Famitsu article has a full rundown of all the episodes, so hit the jump for more.

Halo Legends DVD release scheduled for 16/2/10.

Halo Legends is an animation project consisting of 7 stories from the Halo universe, shown through 8 episodes. Both DVD and BD are scheduled to be released on 16th Feb 2010, by Warner Video, with the BD edition consisting of 2 BDs priced at 5980 Yen, and the DVD edition containing 3 discs at 4980 Yen. Also in the DVD edition lies a special image disc full of original illustrations.

Episode 1&2 “Origins Part1 & Part2”

Producers – Studio 4C – (Director – Hideki Futamura; Producer – Eiko Tanaka)

From the Forerunner's Birth until the war with the Covenant, the 1000 year period of the history of the world called Halo is depicted on a magnificent scale. It is a story that makes it easier to understand the worldview of Halo.

Episode 3 “The Babysitter”

Producers – Studio 4C (Director – Toshiyuki Kanno; Producer – Eiko Tanaka

This depicts a detailed account of a Spartan Sniper squad raid undertaken by the ODST unit.

Episode 4 “Prototype”

Producers – Bones (Directors – Yasushi Muraki & Tomoki Kyoda; Producer – Masahiko Minami)

This is the story of the so-called heartless sergeant, regaining his respect/dignity as a human being while fighting with a pair of walking armor suit weapons.

Episode 5 “Homecoming”

Producer – Production IG (Director – Koji Sawai; Executive Producer – Mamoru Oishii)

This is the legend of the heroic female Spartan. During the process of battle, the top secret details of the Spartan’s plan, as well as the actions taken with the absence of morale and the presence of considerable doubt, the female’s memories are brought back to life.

Episode 6 “The Duel”

Producer – Production IG (Director – Hiroshi Yamazaki; Exec Producer – Mitsuhisa Ishikawa)

This is the legend of the heroic Arbiter, 5000 years before the events of Halo 3. Neither Cell animation nor CG is used here; instead this animation is drawn in a unique natural “painting filter”.

Episode 7
“The Package”

Director – Shinji Aramaki

The fight between the Covenant and the Spartans is depicted in full CG animation only. Aramaki himself has taken it upon himself to be the director, and to depict the activities of the Spartans as forceful.

Episode 8
“Odd One Out”

Producer – Toei Animation (Director – Daisuke Nishio)

An episode that incorporates things that will make you smile here and there .

MOAR xbox 360:

Legacy Comments

I honestly don't know if I should bother with this.

I mean I am a fan of Halo. In terms of Game play the games are totally mediocre however the story in the games are far more epic then any other shooter out there.

I read the books and they expanded the universe very well. The Fall of Reach was incredible(which makes me excited the next game is based around this book)

The people I have talked to about the episodes that were released on XBL said that they either sucked really hard or they loved em. So I really don't know if I should bother with it.
If you're a fan of Halo, you probably have a 360. If you have a 360, you can download the free Halo Waypoint app and judge these for yourself. They're airing one episode from it every other Saturday.
Ironic? Not really considering there are plenty of non-ps3 bluray players out there, and considering the first several $100 and below ones have started popping up, it's not like there's much reason to shell out an extra $200 and bow to Sony if you only want to watch movies.
Very true, but most people who wanted a Blu-ray player early got PS3s. Plus, Blu-ray is still a Sony-started projected (although now plenty of other companies have a stake in it, excluding Microsoft). So it's still sorta ironic. But not altogether unexpected.
@Reibooi: For me, it was just the opposite. I found the gameplay good, but the story cliche and derivative. I guess Halo is a good example of "your mileage may vary."
I'm aware that you can go and check out the episodes on the Waypoint thingy but to be honest there has been absolutely no reason to turn on the 360 for awhile.
@Jon Snyder

I would say that when the original Halo was released on the first Xbox it had incredible game play. After all at the time FPS games hadn't really taken off on console yet and it was more or less perfected by Halo. However By today's standards games like Halo 3 and ODST are just average compared to better faster paced games like like COD, Killzone, and even games like Gears and Uncharted(although those 2 are third person but still shooters)

I would agree that the story in Halo is cliche. But what I was getting at is in terms of the story lines in a FPS it is by far the most epic. Sure there were FPS games that had great stories before like Half-Life and System Shock but they still didn't have the incredible sense of scale that the story line in Halo does. If you haven't read the books you really don't know how deep the story goes. There is ALOT more to the universe then what we see in the games. Hence the reason something like Halo Legends is happening in the first place.
So, in other words, it's All There In The Manual?

I love TV Tropes.
This is funny to me because of the fanboy war that you see on all the videogame sites. Is a PS3 loving hater really going to buy A Halo Blu Ray?
@Jon Snyder

Yeah that pretty much sums it up lol. I would say that the story in the games is supposed to try to capture you can then get you interested in learning more via the books and what not but not everyone really cares. I mean the vast Majority of people buy the game solely for the Online and never even touch the single player.
The irony. I never thought of it that way.
ooooo i actually cant wait for this... i enjoy the halo story for it being pretty epic.

im not a huge halo game fan, im not a fanboy either i just enjoy any thing with a storyline that can rope me in.

ive read all the halo books and enjoyed them very much, im hella interested in the other spartan soldiers also.

li-008 ftw!
