07th Expansion's Higurashi no Naku Koro ni is an incredibly violent murder mystery involving moe girls in the 1980s. Despite the bizarre conceit, it was very good and managed to get a huge fan following. It went from a doujin sound novel series to a two season anime and also recieved several manga adaptations and two film productions. The first season even managed to get licensed by Geneon and picked up by Funimation several months ago.

According to ANN, now you'll have a chance to play the original game. Follow through the jump for more info.

Announced at Anime Expo, MangaGamer.com has licensed the first eight parts of Higurashi, which should include the four question chapters and four answer chapters from the original release. MangaGamer says they will be releasing the first part in October and releasing the next part two months later.

As Higurashi is niche even in its own market, being a murder mystery in a market where the general idea is to always stick it in. It'll be interesting to see how it does, because then we might see bigger eroge and other types of games getting translated. Well, at least I hope it does, because I wouldn't mind having an official version of Tsukihime or Fate/Stay Night on my hard drive.

More Higurashi is always good to me. Can't wait. As for other things I would want, School Days for sure. I know there is a fan translation project and all, but I want an official translation.

So as a person who saw the entire anime series twice, as well as read translations of the games' "TIPS system" for additional information, can anyone tell me if there any point to playing these games? I'd imagine that, due to the almost complete lack of "gameplay," it's probably safe for me to skip them.

@Necros: Its mostly meant for the Hardcore fans that have to have everything Higurashi I guess. But, I don't care, it will be something interesting to do when I am in school and bored.

I could give a list of absolutely crazy stuff I'd do to get Fate/Hollow Ataraxia finally translated (inevitably after F/SN and Tsukihime are officially brought over).

I look forward to getting this. My first foray into The Endless Summer was the anime. Watching the first 3 I was pretty ho-hum about it, episode 4 really livened things up and then 5 just threw me for a loop with the restart. Since then the show sold me, quality and all.
It will be nice to see where it came from

Fuck yeah! Been wanting to play this ever since seeing the anime. Since the fan translation is going slooooow as molasses I might check this out once it gets released.

Oh man, first the JAST USA + Nitroplus partnership and now this... Looks to be a great time for visual novels. Honestly, I hadn't even heard of this company before and I'm a bit surprised they were able to secure such a high profile licenses.

Their prices seem to be a bit steep (I mean, 50 euros/70 dollars for Da Capo? I don't care if it's well-known -- that game is 7 years old!), but for Higurashi I'll pay anything.

Not to mention MangaGamer also licensed Shuffle, so it's entirely possible they'll license higher tier stuff if this does well.

yeeeeessss I've tried playing through the fan release and it's tough to get through with different groups. I love to know it's coming out officially. I would want to support this and get it.
