I've always had a strong interest in Japanese history, and I must say that traditional artwork and scrolls have always held an interest. That's partially why when I've considered grad school, I cast my eyes towards Columbia University, who has a rather robust collection.
Well, if I really want, I guess I could start my own for the low low price of $15,000. This scroll, found on Pink Tentacle, depicts a tale called "The Night Parade of a Hundred Demons." It's a traditional story of demons and traditional Japanese monsters on the prowl at night, and runs a whopping 37 feet. Down below in the gallery you can check out a bunch of the images from the item, or plenty more on its eBay page.
Seriously, if I had the money, I would buy this. It's not so much about showing off ancient artwork or how much money I have, but being able to actually own a piece of history and traditional culture that I could otherwise only see in a museum. Although, it would probably be better for the work if the museum had it, only because they can take better care of it.
And if you bid, remember: it has free shipping!
Best. Artist. Ever.
