Despite having a short summer break and pretty much just Golden Week for work holidays, Japan celebrates a ridiculous number of special days dedicated to all kinds of inane things, like Health and Sports day, Respect for the Elderly Day, Nature Day, and so on.
Well, that practice just redeemed itself for October 10th (tomorrow for our North American readers) is Moe day. YES. Finally, a day that matters. And it's not just some kind of "other" moe that's been co-opted by otaku, it's actually a celebration of all things moe, and the reason it's called Moe day is a fortunate result of clever kanji wordplay, as expanded upon in the gallery.
Best yet, it seems that a whopping 81% of Japanese are aware of Moe day, as opposed to the other days that October 10th is, like Tuna Day (0.5%) and Look After Your Eyes Day (21%), and Tin Can Day. Yes, Tin Can Day.
There. October 10th is Moe day. What types of Moe will you be celebrating?
