Independent anime: フミコの告白 by Tete
by Diverse, 11/10/2009

If there's anything I love more about an entertainment medium, it's the independent community behind it. I've always found whatever these people put out to be far more entertaining then what has been shoved down our throats by the mainstream. This holds true for many things; movies, books, video games, and music especially. But for anime? Let's just say, I've never really been acquainted with the indie side of that. I can't even really say whether or not I was aware that any indie anime studios really existed. Sure, I've watched A Summer Day's Dream a few times. And hell, I've even watched a few fan-made hentai movies over the years, but can this really add up to my expectations for an indie community that I've grown to love in film or music? Maybe not, but then that's where Tete comes in.

Hiroyasu Ishida, aka Tete, is the man behind フミコの告白, roughly translated to Confessions of Fumiko. He's a 21 year old university student and one man animation studio, who made every scene in this anime short with his own two hands, with some assistance for the CG backgrounds. If that isn't cause for some admiration, then I don't know what is. To think that animation done so superbly as this was made by one person is mind blowing. You just can't tell the difference between this and an anime title produced by a big name studio. It's really just all-around, top notch work.

You can view the short below. You can also look at the storyboard and other sketches that led to the making for Confessions of Fumiko. Some of these seem to suggest that this can become more then just a short, and a DVD cover can even be seen amongst the sketches. Hopefully we might see this short become an extended feature for a DVD release? I sure hope so! At any rate, I wish for Tete's dreams of becoming an animator to come true, and I can't wait to see what he comes up with next.
