Yesterday, October 28th, was the 8th annual International Animation Day... and I completely missed it. *facepalm*
International Animation Day was first celebrated in 2002, and organized by the International Animated Film Association in order to raise public awareness about animation. According to the IAD website:
There is an amazing diversity in animation films, which means that this event doesn’t only aim for young viewers. Even better, it appears that animation is growing beyond its first goal and attracting many more adolescents and adults than in the past. There is a real public interest in animation to which we need to show more about what we do!
Educating adults about the merits of animation? I support this wholeheartedly. After all, I can't tell you how many times my interest in anime has been marginalized or outright mocked by people who have a poor understanding of the medium. "Oh, you like them Chinese porn cartoons?" they say as I seeth with silent anger. It's too bad I missed International Animation Day; I would have loved to take the opportunity to expose some of my uninitiated friends to the awesomeness that is anime.
Well, I did laze around and watch a lot of Macross yesterday... so I guess it's kind of like I celebrated, right?
I usually don't let non-anime people know I'm into it sadly. Had a boss call it porn a few years back, after correcting him he was still like "yeah but they do porn too" he was a perv. The damn stigma just won't die.
love the picture btw :)
