Mainichi tells us that the Japanese government conducted a survey and has found that 5,400 homeless people are using internet and manga cafes as temporary homes. Homeless they might be, they found that half had steady employment. What is striking is that people in their 20s account for the largest group of Internet café refugees; though people in their 50s account for the second largest group. Proving that those out of college and the slight elderly have a difficult time finding employment.
“There are cases in which people end up in a vicious circle, having no home because they have no work, and not being able to find work because they have no home,” stated a ministry official. Despite the suckyness of being unemployed and not having a home, I could not think of a better place to live. At least in Japanese net cafes you do not get herds of kids loudly playing Counterstrike and blasting that song that talks about percents constantly; so let me tell you the homeless people over there got it good.
