Okay. Here's the thing. I thought about posting this on the front page, but it's so GOSSIPY that I couldn't bring myself to actually do it. I figured, people that don't give a fuck about j-drama will hate me for posting it, but if I post it in my cblog, people that like it will come read it, and other people can ignore it. Everyone's happy!
Anyway. On to the dirt. You know I'm excited about that new cop drama that Oguri Shun and Mizushima Hiro are working on , Tokyo Dogs. That I have posted on the front page. Well, I've been keeping up with all the stuff they've been doing to promote it (it starts in a few weeks) and while reading I found this thing over at Kawaii Joyuu that kind of made my mouth drop open. From the article:
"The chemistry of the "Tokyo DOGS" cast seems to be more than just amazing. It is quite a change to see some "love" going on behind the scenes of a dorama that does not involve the heroine. It is Oguri and Mizushima's own fault for praising each other in so many odd ways. Oguri described Mizushima as "a very honest and polite person." On their flight back from the set in America, they saw the sleeping faces of each other on the plane and Oguri was simply overwhelmed. "His face was so pretty. If it was for Hiro, I might be able to change my orientation." This kind of talked continued for a little while and involved other interesting comments such as "his skin is so smooth and clean", "he is so sweet" and other heart-throbbing disclosures. "We might even continue to hang out after the filming." They said. Mizushima should be careful not to make his wife Ayaka too jealous."
Uh. Imagine if you were working on a film with another guy (or a girl if you were a girl) and the other actor says "Your face is so pretty. I would go gay for you." WHAAAAT? The awkwardness factor is catastrophic. Actress Yoshitaka Yuriko also said ""It is really not that easy (to work) with that lovestoned athmosphere around Oguri and Mizushima!"
This got me thinking about the relationships between men in Japan as compared to in the US. Perhaps this kind of talk or bonding is totally cool there. I'll be honest in that I do not know. For the most part, saying shit like that here between men would get you punched. If it is in fact possible that it's a little more acceptable for men to bond in Japan like this, I think its really cool. However, I admit it would be hilarious to me if they ended off coming out of the closet together. Pretty sure that's not going to happen!
Anyone have any insight about the nature of Japanese friendships between men? I'd say they're both merely burning with gar for each other, but they're both a little girly as far as guys go. :)
you bring up a pretty good topic.
yea i guess its taboo in the western world but on the asian side its all good.
I am very comfortable with my sexually, i am a male and i like girls.. so if i see a pretty looking guy i say "thats guys pretty good looking" without feeling weird about it.
i think its an asian thing. my blood is vietnamese and i was born in new zealand but i was raised up very vietnamese.
i have vietnamese/chinese mates and im comfortable with them and there comfortable with me. we bond quite closely and we at times sleep in the same bed.
ive been back to vietnam many times and vietnamese males are very comfortable with each other.
i see that japanese men are the same so i say its an asian thing.
i have a few european mates and if you talk about things that is remotely kinda gay with them or even touch their thigh by accident they can get pretty defensive! this is all my limited view of course, i could be wrong and im just hanging out with very homophobic european males.
