Hmmm, the Lucky Star manga was probably translated on the cheap since it's Bandai US doing it and they don't seem to have much in the way of cash to do anything... like get DVDs out on time, etc.

Ok, I haven't even finished the episode yet but I couldn't resist chiming in on all that talk about investment in crunchyroll and whether or not it's turned a profit. So I'm posting form work, lol.

Chances are that CR has not turned a profit yet and won't for quite some time. But that's ok, and that doesn't mean you shouldn't invest.

Here's a couple things to keep in mind.
Amazon.com was founded in 1994 but didn't turn it's first profit until the fourth quarter 2001 (http://news.cnet.com/2100-1017-819688.html). That's almost 8 full years without turning a profit but as we all know there were plenty of people willing to take a chance and invest in Amazon.

No one really knows if youtube has turned a profit or not, many people think they might be close, but that didn't stop google from investing.

When Microsoft invested millions into Facebook it was not yet profitable.

NicoNico is several million short of profitable.

See with stuff like this, you're investing in the future, what you think that company can become. Like all other investments, it's a risk, you might be stuck with it.

TV Tokyo has clearly taken a gamble on CR, and hopes that they can help turn it into a profitable company, or at least increase their own profits, through this investment.

Streaming video is pretty expensive to maintain so I can almost guarantee that CR is not turning a profit and is most likely years away from doing so. But that's not a reason to not invest, indeed, they HAVE to have investment if they ever want to grow to the point where they can profit. If no one invested in Amazon when it wasn't profitable, we wouldn't have Amazon. So good on TV Tokyo for taking a chance and hopefully making the service better. Also, I think venturing into Manga is a good call for them. Ok, I'm gonna go back to work and finish the episode. Can't believe I pulled this up at work...

@BGFUSAB: Good points. I tend to be purposefully vague on anything financial so I don't stick my foot in my mouth, but the idea of TV Tokyo investing in the future makes sense to me.

Especially if their thought process goes something like this: "Well, we can try to invest in streaming and have a chance at making some ad revenue...or we could just let everyone continue to download all of our stuff for all eternity, while we slowly bleed money until we have none left. Hmmm...."

So now that I've finished the show...

I'd say I watch 95% of my anime subbed. Not because I'm snobby or anything, I just like it better that way. I don't particularly care for most dubbed voice acting for a few reasons some of which were touched on. I think it helps that I am not fluent in Japanese so I don't have a very good idea of what they sound like in relation to real people but I definitely do when it's dubbed.

After listening to the show, I hear you complain more about dub then actually liking it. I myself gave up dub long ago with Project A-Ko and the don't rape me converting into don't hurt me. I do not like how they localize the anime in dubs and most US company sub releases. I also can't stand most of the english voice actors. I prefer the japanese voices and the work they go into their characters matching far better the the english voice.

I prefer fansubs as most the anime I watch never makes it to the US or does many years later all hacked up, yes I am a pervert and enjoy it. I would rather look something up and understand the culture then have to converted into something a dumb ass can understand without help. Kamichu is a good example.

The same goes for scanlations, most of the manga I read isn't coming to America because people are scared of characters under 18 being teases with all those lovely pantie shots or half exposed breasts.

I really can't see Kiss X Sis coming to the US any time soon, but I will damn well enjoy it thanks to fansubs, as I did the manga and the OVAs.

Dub better than the original? Black Lagoon

I like it when dubs and subs are both good cause then I can switch from one to the other and still not really notice. :D

I've basically got the opinion of the gang. If there's a dub, I'll watch it. However, since I started watching stuff as it comes out I've been watching a lot of subs. I'm okay with both.
What's absolutely fantastic are Gag dubs. Anyone who hasn't watched the Ghost Stories dub should do that right now. They took the original story to a boring anime and changed all the dialog to make jokes the entire time. It's hilarious.

Also, 5'10"-11" is short? Where do you come from, Sweden?

I've heard great things about the Ghost Stories dub; I've got to watch that one soon.

You won't be disappointed.

Just a warning, though, some of the jokes are slightly dated. Most of it comes circa 2005 so there's a few Katrina jokes and stuff like that.

Emma a Victorian Romance would have been a great dub.
