Japanator AM 20: A New Fangirl Born Every Day

Episode 20 is one of those nice multiple-of-five episodes, so to follow our pattern thus far, this should have been a listener questions episode. However, since there were only a few of us available to record this time- Colette, Ben, and myself, to be precise- it's probably just as well we held off on that for now. The next show will be listener questions, where you can ask us all about sexual proclivities that we're far too coy to discuss, (not to mention CLASSY) and possibly one or two vaguely Japan-related things. You can listen to this one here.

Oh, and Jake pops in randomly now and again to share his thoughts whenever he can tear himself away from drinking premium aged sake and seducing Jpop idols in his bathrobe- why they're wearing his bathrobe, you'll have to find out on Japanator AM: After Dark! Which would be a good place to put most of those questions you guys ask, come to think of it.

...Okay, I take back that thing I said before about having class. Just listen to the damn episode- which is about Crunchyroll, by the way. Hit the jump for notes and pictures.

We recorded this episode before this announcement broke, so that's why we don't talk about the possibilities presented by a Crunchyroll manga site in any real detail. You couldn't have broken that news a few days earlier, CR? Think of the starving podcasters.

News:
00:01:36: Quick update on the Twilight manga lettering fiasco
00:05:54: Does anyone OTHER than Brad follow Japanese politics? NO.
00:08:14: "Uniquely Japanese" titles do we want to see come over?
00:17:05: Might we lose Gainax, and if so, what does it mean?
00:22:56: Scanlations: IT'S ON

0:28:23: Special Segment: Gackt for Dummies. Check out the awesome Gackt/Squall pic at the bottom of the post.

0:33:43: Break!

Topic of the Week:

00:34:00: Crunchyroll and the current role of streaming anime- a name has been bleeped to protect the not-at-all innocent.

What We've Been Watching:

00:45:15: JDrama:Tsuki no Koibito is a hit with Colette

00:52:06: The Mandatory Durarara!! Segment: Still Hot, Still Mandatory

00:56:30: B Gata H Kei and that damned misleading first episode

01:01:27: Ben is apparently the only person alive who understands Arakawa Under the Bridge

Omake:

01:04:25: We discuss wrinkly brains, summer convention plans, Colette's super-shiny new business cards, and how Brad entices Ben to attend events with the promise of nubile convention guests; he didn't say "nubile", but I'm reading between the lines here- I have a degree in that, so you can trust me.
