I think the reason why Durarara managed to give a satisfying ending, with leaving plenty of stuff for future seasons, is because not only did the "Villain of the Second Half of the Season" get completely and utterly owned and concluded, but the Puppet Master villain, while his plans were not stalled even sightly, he did get punched, so it is satisfying enough.

BTW, the Policeman does have more than one episode, though mostly glimpses. But his appearance in the last episode was awesome.

Yeah, everyone but the main characters are going to die, but just try not to become attached to them. Instead just enjoy the main characters being awesome.

But man, listening to this was pretty amazing. Except I kinda need to disagree with your assessment of Mikado being boring. Sure, he's not as odd as Shinra or awesome as Shizuo or Celty, but I mean... I point you to the revelation at the end of episode 11. Hearing him go 'I have all the pawns I need' was pretty amazing.

It's great to see Jake back on the podcast after a long hiatus. I concur with what you guys said regarding Anri's character development. She had the potential to be more awesome. However it was satsfying to see her attack Izaya at the end.

It will be a damn shame if a second season doesn't get the greenlight, because there were characters that were introduced but were barely used, and obviously saved for the next season.

Personally I hope the serious aspect of the show holds up. Zombies are innately cheesy so I hope the creepy factor of Highschool of the Dead holds up and the human vibe that the characters are giving off continue to feel real throughout the rest of the show.

Occult Academy on the other hand is nothing but cheese and cheap gags so far. It is off to a better start then Night Raid at least.

I am excited beyond words for Haibane Renmei's reprint, but I'm also sad that Durarara!! wasn't licensed by Funimation. Hopefully some of the Funimation actors will be able to participate in it (including Bryan Massey, considering his absolutely amazing job in Baccano!).

I figured the thing about Anri was that it was very obvious that she's engineered to be attractive - big boobs, glasses, a reserved attitude, etc. I found myself kinda rolling my eyes at her as a whole, though of course it was handled well and everything.

I can appreciate that Izaya was a good character, but him getting punched was a high point of the series.

On that matter, I figured the whole war thing that Izaya was talking about meant the gang war between the Yellow Scarves and Dollars he tried to start in the second half of the season - there never really was a war because the other characters managed to stop it. Of course, that was just my assumption.

Incest is indeed WINcest. And Jake's comment on what would happen if Shizuo got head may be the funniest thing i've ever heard on this podcast.

Great podcast once again. On the topic of Durarara, Mikado and Anri were basically the shy ones of the group where as Kida was the outgoing one. Of course no one likes to listen to shy people being shy, hopefully in season 2 we might get to see them both break out of their shells since they now know of each others secret lives now. Maybe we might have Kida make a comeback in the later half. To me it was one of those shows that makes everything better, you could have the worst day of your life and then you watch Durarara and poof! your day has become better.

In a way at first most people might have gotten the feeling of "why in the hell are we following these normal ass high school students?" and then they end up playing a big role in the season's finale to show their significance in the plot. That was one of the things I enjoyed about the series and I hope that the second season follows up on the stuff that was left unanswered. Until then Ben might be the all seeing Durarara predictor for now.

By the way is there a translation up online for the Durarara novels since Ben ihas kept up with them or is it his amazing Japanese reading skills that allow him to read up the latest books available.
