With a new crew, a new host and a wild, some-what not planned format, Japanator AM is yet again in new hands and under a more raw setting. What a week to return, as we cover the crazy news and cool releases of the past few weeks... "we" being myself, acting as your host of this fine podcast tonight, fellow editors Hiroko Yamamura and Elliot Gay, and two of our newest members to the Japanator family, Josh Totman (still lovingly known as Totsu for his Cooking Otaku and J-Drama-O-Rama columns) and Sentai enthusiast Salvador G. Rodiles, writer for our new Superhero Time feature. Tonight, we discuss CES 2012, reflect and gush out over the release of Katawa Shoujo, and then talk about the first batch of new releases for the 2012 Winter anime season.
Thanks to everyone who suggested a name for our podcast revival, though you might be asking why we ended up picking Japanator AM. Hit the jump for the answer, as well as streaming, editing notes, timecodes and more! So much awaits you!
PLUS!
If you can't get enough of our editors talking about nothing, check out the extra link for the Japanator Aftershow! I have to cut a lot of stuff out each week, so an optional download for those eager enough to listen will be available! Damn it, just hit that jump already!
What's New This Week:
-Update on Last Week: Well, obviously we've been on longer-than-usual break for the podcasts, though don't think that this incident is reflective of future episodes: this was a one time deal! None of our members screwed up, we didn't purposely bail on you guys... in fact, we actually have an unofficial episode that we recorded two weeks back. However, I've been incapacitated these past couple of weeks due to a broken leg...whoops. (send in your kind regards below, because I literally can't recover without gobbling up pity from you all)
-REBOOT OF JAPANATOR AM: We're gonna try our hardest to pick up the AM handle again, following in the footsteps of Ben, and treading ahead to opt for the best Japanator hosted podcast, a la Karen before him. This episode will undoubtedly not live up to the standards they've created, but here's to hoping I could at least somehow meet them halfway down the road and maybe add some of the zest Japanator's newest share.
-Newest Writers!: With us this week are two of our newest staff writers: Josh and Salvador. Here's a chance to hear their voices so you can use it as ammunition when flaming the comments section after a nasty argument over SHAFT shows.
-JAPANATOR AFTERSHOW!: I really put effort into slimming this weeks podcast into something more manageable, seeing as though listening to us assholes talk for a whole hour and then some would get old really quick. So I've opted for a solution: If you're one of the few who just love to hear us talk and feel that 45 minutes is just not long enough for you, then check out our Japanator Aftershow, where you get all of the raw audio and stuff edited out for time and pace. You get to hear our banter before the actual podcast begins, as well as us chatting casually afterwards and in between breaks. Get twice as much podcast for your buck! Win-win!
TIMECODES: RunTime: [48m:28s]
00:00 - Mic Check 00:18 - THEME SONG! ["Tracey Gold" -- Freezepop] 00:50 - Introductions from the Crew [Elliot, Marcus, Hiroko] 03:18 - NEWEST WRITERS! [Josh, Salvador] 08:44 - Feature -- Consumer Electronics Show 2012: Hiroko gives a quick rundown of her visit to CES this year, and her time with Dale North and Conrad Zimmerman from Destructoid. 12:19 - Square Enix and Falcom on iTunes: Elliot gives his take on the coincidental and ironic iTunes fiasco between these two very different video game developers, size-wise. 16:28 - Video Game Discussion: Resident Evil 6 and Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City. 20:10 - Salvador's Anime Watch: Our friend Sal talks about his coverage on Ano Natsu, as well as his favorite shows this season. 23:54 - More Video Game Discussion: What are the best Sega Dreamcast Games? Shenmue, Jet Grind Radio, Seaman, Berserk and more are touched upon. 28:28 - Katawa Shoujo Discussion - After letting some time settle between 100% it, Elliot and Marcus talk about the increasingly popular Katawa Shoujo VN. 32:23 - Elliot gushes out more about stupid shit. We all stopped listening to him at this point because he's dumb and only likes children, I heard. 33:00 - Hiroko's Anime Watch: We talk a little about Guilty Crown, as well as touch up on the video game Catherinea bit. 35:50 - Josh's Anime Watch: Josh says, and I quote: "High School DxD has no good qualities about it, Marcus was right and he's always right." 37:20 - Marcus' Anime Watch: Kill Me Baby is shit. 38:06 - Elliot's Anime Watch: We systematically take Lagrange apart, piece by piece. 39:06 - Reader Questions!: Despite our random call-out for questions, we actually got a few we chose to read out. If your question isn't answered, don't feel too sad that it was cut in favor of time restraints. Maybe you can check out Japanator Aftershow to hear us talk about it there, eh? 46:26 - Wrap-up and Goodbye (Japanator AM): Thanks again you guys for sticking it out with us here at Japanator! 47:11 - Ending Song ["Sincerely" -- Tsutchie / Nujabes]
NOTES:
-Sorry for the really poor audio quality this week, you guys! Poor choice of mics, and definitely something to improve upon, so please bear with us for a little bit more.
-I swear, you'd be surprised how often I had to edit us laughing out. We laugh a lot, however a good podcast that does not make I guess.
-Check next week around this time for a post from me, asking for questions!... Maybe......
