As far as Gundam goes 0080 is my favorite. It's only 6 episodes long and like 08th MS Team things seem a lot more realistic.

Bleach is called bleach after the name of a song by Nirvana, which Kubo is a fan of, apparently.

I always thought Wing came before G on Toonami, that's why I never saw it since I didn't get cable until G came on.

Anyway, Gundam G is still one of my favorite anime for its sheer camp value. It's GAReat.

@HaloZ The show can be really drama heavy. I remember the first season pissing me of at times, but I promise it's a show that pays off if you can stick with it.

I kinda feel bad; it always feels like I'm being too wordy. But I can't help myself. You can probably understand why I dislike Twitter. Anyway...

On the $50 half-season boxsets: Usually, the initial MSRP looks kind of high like that (though the total if you bought both seasons would still be less than the wild, lawless days of 8-disc release plan singles), but I actually see most retailers sell the half-season boxsets for significantly less than the sticker price. Honey and Clover's half-season boxes say they retail for like $60 apiece, but I picked them up at RightStuf.com for $35 each, which is much more manageable.

As far as mecha shows, this weekend's segment got me thinking. When I consider my own collection, it feels like half of the series I own "have mecha in them," but a lot of them I don't consider to be primarily mecha shows, or I didn't really buy them for the mechs. When I think of a pure "mecha show," I think of something like GaoGaiGar, but that's actually a lot less common than what I like - shows about characters that have mechs in them, where the mechs are more of an enabling agent for a character to exert their will on a larger playing field. I sometimes think that you could get a lot of the same results by replacing the mechs with different sets of magic poweres, except that mechs represent an imperfect mash-up between humans and powerful technology (i.e., a mech can break down in a fight, or an enemy can steal a protagonist's mech and use it against them, conceivably). A good example is Escaflowne. That series has mechas in it, but the focus of the story is the characters, and the mechs are just the vehicles through which the conflict plays out.

To the non-mech crowd, or the crowd that wants to see something that's about more than "War; how it ravages us all!", I'm gonna go ahead and recommend Vandread. The biggest caveat is that the show is high on fanservice, perhaps some of the highest of shows I'll admit to liking. But beyond that, there's a lot to like. The series is actually about gender identity and social interaction between characters in a future where men and women have developed separate societies on separate planets for a hundred years. On the surface it has a lot of the kind of hijinks one might normally toss out a series like this for, but a lot of the humor is in how the two single-gender cultures debunk all the propaganda their societies have been feeding them about the other side, while of course, learning to work together and combine, for space battles. Your mileage may vary, but I enjoy the series and think it's a good watch, even if you don't consider yourself a mecha fan.

Regarding your omake ponderance: I think the term for the "high school escorts" you're looking for is "enjou kousai." Though, I'm kinda loose on whether this term implies sexual prostitution or not.

Trying to explain what exactly I think is wrong with the Itunes thing would take a while and might not even be accurate, but I am trying to fix it- I think it has something to do with how the show is set up at Libsyn, as opposed to Jtor radio, in which case the feedburner might not be the problem. It WILL get solved eventually, I just want to make sure I understand what's going on before I start over and re-upload everything.

@Ittoujuu: Don't feel bad about being wordy at all, it's great to have the feedback. Most people aren't going to chime in on what they liked and disliked, which is fine- not everyone needs to be an active participant- but anyone taking the time to do so helps us.

You've piqued my interest in Vandread, it sounds like it could be another case like Chu-Bra!! where people bitch about the sexual content, missing the point that the show actually deals with sex in a more-than-shallow way. I'll have to check it out.

No doubt man! I’m hooked, but like you where mentioned 2 pod casts ago, her relationship with Takagi, it was just heart breaking and after marathoning series one a week or so ago, it took a lot out of me. So I had to laugh a bit before I went back to that well again, which I did last night. I’m up to EP 4 and will watch an EP or 2 tonight if I can.

Ohh, also while I was showing some buddies the First season EP1 of Bloody Monday, I realized I had taken a picture of billboard of a dude that looked like Haruma Miura, so I went in the file of pics from my trip back in Nov of 08 and found this.

I know I haven’t heard any one talk about AKB48’s Majisuka Gakuen, but it’s a silly fun little show too that I have been following when I can.

@ J-tor podcast crew : Great show guys and gals! I laughed my ass off all day at work. Ok , I’ll just shut up now.

I despise Full Metal Panic. I think it's a great example of a show that was completely crushed under its attempt to blend genres (military, shounen, slice of life, romance, comedy, etc). As soon as it starts progressing in one direction it switches setting and just scraps it all.

Not to mention it has my most hated character tropes as lead characters: the witless moron fish out of water type character and the super bitchy "I'll hit you for crossing the street wrong" Narusegawa type character. That and the main villain is utterly unkillable.

On the side note from seeing GaoGaiGar I think in a way its one of the Gurren Laganns of the 90s in terms of its ridiculousness. All though the show started off as a formula based kids super robot show (think of Sailor Moon formula for those who haven't watched that many super robot shows or sentai formula), it was still a fun watch regardless. Also all the main characters are well developed and GAR. You will also grow attached to a good number of them, even the robot characters. As the show progresses, it starts to get slightly more mature in and the ova GaoGaiGar FINAL was a big surprise on the story telling. Its unfortunate we don't see too many people mention this series (at least among people I know who like anime).

I might throw in Gaiking Legend of Daiku Maryu since the main plot of the series sounds similar to the first two parts of Gurren Lagann, even though it came out in 2005. Mainly since it involves an empire trying to conquer the surface world and a group of people are trying to head to their world to fight their leader while the main character is trying to look for his dad that he lost 5 years ago. The mech it self exhibits a couple viking like themes like the carrier ship being a giant dragon and Gaiking its self having a helmet with horns along with a dragon head for its chest. The machine itself is powered by hot blooded flames. I know this all sounds cliche-ish by now but like GaoGaiGar and Gurren it does have a fun cast and the main character Daiya is pretty ripped for a 13 year old. Every episode shows progression in their journey and Daiya would use Gaiking in clever ways to beat his foes instead of the typical use one finisher in every episode to destroy the foe. The show itself is a re envisioning of the original 1976 version. The show also had some moments that make you waver over the fate of certain character along with a later villain that has the you just want that person to die very badly vibe just from seeing them in action. After watching this series, it made me love Gurren Lagann even more due to the number of homages the Gainax used from other mecha series.

Also I would like to apologize for being the random new guy jumping in on a post to suggest something with out giving any proper introduction. Also since you were all on the subject of suggesting mecha shows that might appeal to does that loved Gurren Lagann during the podcast.

The series was originally meant to be named "Black" due to the color of the Soul Reapers' clothes, but Kubo thought it was too generic. He later tried giving it the name of "White", but came to like "Bleach" more as it was associated with the white color and he did not find it too obvious.
