Japanator AM Episode 9: Special OPs
by Karen Leslie, 03/19/2010
Japanator AM Episode 9: Special OPs photo

This week, with Colette trapped in the Jdrama fanservice dimension (although perhaps 'trapped' is the wrong word...), I was the only woman on the podcast, however I was STILL the only one man enough to make a top ten list of my favorite anime openings. Go figure. In addition, with Jon Snyder also trapped in the fanservice dimension (presumably fighting Bizarro-Jon), Brad Rice came to the rescue with his knowledge of Japanese politics and sundry otaku things. You can listen to it here.

We also discuss our thoughts on Final Fantasy XIII, and whether or not Vanille is a special little snowflake; for better or for worse, you can expect more FFXIII discussion in future episodes. There's plenty more, because this is a really long episode that covered a lot of ground, so if you want to know more you'll just have to either:

a)Listen to the show

OR

b)Hit the jump for notes and things. In fact, why not do that right now?

Show Notes of things that are worthy of note:

News:

As you can see, the news was serious business this week

0:01:54- Dance in the Vampire Bund- Censored, Not Censored, Mina's gonna do what?

0:07:54- Imaginary children protection bill, we hope you die an inglorious death

0:14:07- Fantagraphics publishing manga, and interesting stuff t'boot

0:20:32- Visual Kei, as corrupt as it sounds, or just very corrupt?

0:27:15- The Otaku Sex Industry- Really, guys? Seriously?

0:35:42- Manga artist Hideo Azuma hates K-ON!, and guess what time it is? Moe bashing time!

0:50:20- Break time!

Topic of the Week: OP sequences

0:51:23- I start with a top ten list of my personal favorite opening sequences, and Tim rains all over my sincerity parade with music snobbery, but I wouldn't expect anything less. While they might fail at list making, everyone chimes in with a few of their own favorites.

WARNING SPOILER ZONE WOO WOOO OH NOES

Currently Watching/Playing/Something

01:18:24- Final Fantasy XIII; the controversy of Vanille, sort of.

01:31:10- Ladies vs. Butlers

Railgun: THERE IS NO RAILGUN BWAH HAH HAH

01:39:38- Our now-Mandatory Durarara!! segment of concise awesomeness

Omake:

01:42:33- Omake is also serious business this week; spoilers for Haruki Murakami's Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, best conventions for wild otaku sex.

Technical update: I now know why the feed hasn't been working, hence the Itunes problem. With any luck, both the feed and the Itunes subscription will be up and running properly before Episode 10 comes out *crosses fingers*
