Hijacking Dale's column just for a moment, I'd like to bring your attention to a spot of the Internet I just recently found: How to Japonese. Run by Daniel Morales, the site kicked off back in February of 2008, and contains "things I wish people had told me at different points in my Japanese studying career." So, everything from correcting misconceptions in the language to pointing out that the Green Goddess is on sale on Amazon.jp can be found on the site, with plenty of other things relating to Japanese sandwiched in betweeen.

Like drinking. It's an important part of Japanese culture, after all! Actually, what caught my attention was his 1Q84 liveblog, and from there I was hooked. Some of his posts come off as really motivational, like the recent Just Read It article, which reminds me of the occassional bits of Japanese advice that I try to put out on Japanator, except done by someone who, y'know, is much better at it than I am.

If you're looking for a good place to start, and already have some Japanese under your belt, I suggest his article on how 助かりました is an underrated phrase, along with its follow up piece. And be sure to dig through the archives, there's plenty of good stuff in there.
