We here at Japan-a-tor want to make your experience here a happy one. And so, in order to do that, I'm interested in knowing what you guys are interested in. We cover a lot here on the site, from anime and manga to Japanese dramas, and all of the weird, wacky and important news from Japan.
And so, after the jump we've got a poll, asking you just that. We want to make sure you guys are happy with what's on the front page, and so let us know what you really enjoy here at Japanator. And if something's missing? Let us know in the comments too.
We love you guys. We want to treat you well! So, one random commenter will get the Rozen Maiden: Traumend box set shipped to them. We'll pick the winner sometime next week, so now you've got another reason to make your voice heard.
We're evaluating Livefyre, a new comments system that helps us fight spam, allows you to thread comments, get email notifications, and follow site-wide AND twitter/facebook conversations about our stories all from one page. If you love it we will integrate it into the site permanently so that your old comments and profiles sync up. During this test you can register a chat avatar and track your comments here. Let us know what you think! support@japanator.com

i like reading "Japanator Recommends" and having a decent sized list of releases of the week.
it's also nice to read when japanese music shows are coming to the stats as well
I come to Japanator for pretty much all of the above. It's a nice place to get all sorts of fun stuff. If I only wanted news on anime and manga i would be going to anime news network but Japanator has a little bit of everything which i like alot.
You guys offer so much more unique content than a lot of other plain news sites. This place also has much more of a family community just like Destructoid. Just the fact that you are going out of your way to give away free stuff just to hear our opinions speaks volumes.
I love the insights into Japanese culture. It's great that you guys cover so much more than just anime and manga. And more than just wacky news. Things like the rape game ban that have real world implications but would never make it into the mainstream American news. The presentation is always humorous, too.
Apparently you guys had forums before but not now? That's the only thing I can think of that's really lacking on the site, to support things like the moe debate. Once a post moves off the front page, unless it's featured in the sidebar or header, the discussion pretty much ends.
I love Japanator for the same reason why I love Dtoid: humor, crazyness and... what else? Oh yeah, news!
Anyway, I checked almost every option above, except Videogames (Dtoid), Toys (Tomopop) and Anime/Manga (easy to find).
What I like the most around here are the discussions about japanese and weird stuff (which anime character is stronger, who would you like to be your waifu, this kind of stuff). Also, here is my source of overall japanese madness, be it news or some crazy person doing amazing stuff on TV shows.
Just a suggestion, I would like to see some more music-related posts on my Japanator. Not just releases, but artists appearances on TV shows, curiosities and what else could be possible.
I love Japanator for so many reasons, mainly because it offers reports and reviews on the crazy thing the Japanese do. It's your motto not to judge, and I respect that, because so many people, from normal otakus, to weaboos, to Tengu come to this site.
The staff is hilarious in their articles, and I rarely ever laugh. EVER. Forever I have been looking for an Asian site for anime/manga/wackiness, and so far yours is the only one that updates within a year.
Again, the staff's jokes, comments, and photos just make every article a treat rather then pixels made to look like words.
Plus, everyone here is friendly, and also doesn't judge (mostly). I hope to see this site updated until they come out with "Call of Duty 92", AKA I want Japanator to be up for our grandchildren to read!
Okay, maybe not that, but still, everything about this website is amazing, including it's lack of ads, making this site 4x better.
tl;dr This site is the coolest thing since the Gameboy!
Seriously, do not change a thing!!! Japan-a-tor is THE BEST just as it is!!! Don't add X-Treme Sports and Reality shows, Don't change the format to match the Onion, don't get Bryant Gumble to guest-blog, Don't add Westminster Dog Show coverage, Don't get Playmate of the Year "Blankety-Blond-Blank" as a location reporter, Don't try to be Edgier, Cooler, or Hipper... in other words: DON'T CHANGE A THING!!!
I like most of the stuff you guys post here. My interests are mostly clustered around the obvious anime/manga/TV/film/music stuff though. Weird Japan stuff is also fun because who doesn't secretly love an excuse to say "WTF Japan??" I also enjoy the con converage and liveblogging even if it makes me bitter about my own absence half the time.
I don't really pay attention to video game or figure stuff and am usually too ADD for debates, discussion, or reviews though I'll generally skim reviews of series I've already seen to see whether I agree with you or not. :P (lol RxJ)
My friend introduced me back before the latest (I think?) layout update. I was amused, and so I bookmarked it. I felt the need for my opinion to be heard, so I commented. And for a time it was good.
You know I for one miss the fun friday AMV that Len use to do. The weekend Japanatainment was entertaining as well, which Red Z was doing for a bit but it looks like it got dropped. It'd bee cool if someone would bring back the AMV segment at least, as it was nice to see new videos, and the retro flashbacks were always fun too.
Even though I'm currently living in Japan, you guys represent an embarrassingly large source of Japan news for me...I need to start buying the Daily Yomiuri more often.
I drop in for all the cool review stuff you do. I like seeing what's coming out here as well as in Japan, whether it's toys, statues, DVD's or whatever.
I also like the more laid-back attitude here that the staff exudes. Lots of other places I visit that have news and updates are just too..... stiff. Reading news and updates here is more like talking with a friend than talking to a newscaster. The flair is nice to see.
Really, the only thing I would enjoy more of is toy/statue reviews or quick pics of them. I know you have a sister site that covers that more in depth but I don't always want to go into a ton of detail with it. Just a few pics of something new or cool is all you need to see to understand somebody found something neat and wants to share.
Thanks for having an excellent site and keep up the good work.
Bring back the AMV Fridays, more Master Asia articles, and maybe a forum. I just want to say I love the otaku debates, reviews, anime/manga announcements, and convention coverage(especially the galleries). The whole staff at the site are all so awesome. Thanks for keeping me entertained and informed. Long live Japanator!
I visit Japanator every time I come online. The reviews are accurate with the tongue-in-cheek comments reminiscent of Top Gear except in written form.
The news is interesting, particularly when the Japanator staff give their own takes on it, not to mention follow up comments by the writers themselves.
And it's also because I love the Japanator staff. Any bunch of humans who can report a story on the world record for masturbation without sounding awkward are my kind of stupid.
I come for the heart-pounding anime, the weird but lovable japan coverage, the soul stealing music, the informative reviews, the eye-pleasing photo galleries, the always hilarious but intelligent debates.
But what always keeps me coming back is the staff that always knows how to make me lol.
In the end, most people probably keep coming back for the "wacky" sort of news you get on every other Japan-related blog. However, Japanator is more frequently updated than most of those sites, and the sites which ARE even more active are pretty borderline and not places I'd want to be all day (why hello Sankaku Complex).
On top of that there's a lot of variety in the posts here; I can't specify what coverage I want out of Japanator, because every time I get here I have no idea what to expect and I like it that way. Anime and manga were the reason I first came here though. The "clever" writing is what kept me coming back (fire Josh Tolentino and it's going to hurt).
On the downside, I would really like to have a forum community here. I know the forum had been dead for ages before it was removed, but just saying.
As some others have said, the wacky news from Japan is what got me here in the first place, but the variety of things covered here and how often Japanator is updated is what keeps me coming back every day.
Alright! 42 comments when we may get something out of it! Erhmm
But I really like Japanator, more than the other similar blogs I visit (I didn't tick toys or video games because I visit Tomopop and Desctroid for that) I think it just seems to have a more friendly feel to it.
I like how there's variety daily. It's not all just one topic all day. I really love how it is updated frequently which is why it's one of my stops when I go online. This is truly a great website and I really like the "Japanator Recommends". Those are great! :D
The only thing I really think is pointless on here are those weekly debates, but whatever,I just don't click on them. I know I rarely comment on here, but I do like the site a lot.
I agree you should bring back weekend japantainment!
jtor is probably the only anime blog i read, you guys keep me up to date with anime and manga realeses, recommend great stuff and just seem like really cool people. i would like weekend japanatainment back as well and the video review idea was cool also id like to see more scanlation spotlights if possible other than that you guys are perfect keep everything the way it is
This website is one of the few that not only manages to stay relatively SFW (which means I can read it at school and work without looking like a deviant), but also have a wide variety of reports and coverages. No matter what, the articles here always manage to catch my attention or bring up something I never really thought about. Hell, there are tons of anime and manga I would've never have read or heard about if it weren't for Japanator.
Also, because the community here isn't a just one huge walking pile of douchebaggery (like a certain Sankaku Complex).
I love this site becuase it gives me a good old daily dose of Japan, in a witty sarcastic format.
Also, the reviews and everything else inbetween is well written, informative, and makes me wanna know more. Plus sometimes everything can be downright funny!!!
I love you guys, i'll be sure to continue visiting on the daily. ^_^
Honestly, most of the time I love this site and sometimes I'm annoyed.
I like the oddball news and all of the anime related news and some debates(including anime related movies and games). The music info is kind of interesting. Any big name Japanese artist or anime related artist is good news though.
I'm not into the reviews. I'm extremely picky when it comes to reviews. It's not just your site it's about 99% of the reviewers out there.
I'm mostly annoyed by the repetitive posts about specific popular series. It seems like there's been more and more fan service pics for men on the site. The thing I like most about this site is usually gender neutral. It's lacking most of the fan service and guy aimed news that some other sites post.
I used to be annoyed when I would see a post show up here that was posted on another or a few other popular blog sites days or weeks ago. I rarely see that happen anymore. The news is usually posted within the same day of the other news source(which doesn't bother me). I'm glad you guys picked up on that. Sometimes I feel like the sites views on certain things differs from my own. Then again everyone else agrees, so either you have a lot of drones or I'm just weirdo. I'm leaning towards the part that I'm a weirdo.
Good question. A lot of the things I see here keep pissing me off, though none of it is the fault of the staff. I guess it's just out of obligation to Destructoid.
