Right out of the gate, our community blogs have been producing some awesome material. You might remember Roody's 2010 Baccano! calendar that we posted about a while back, and now he's onto a new project: trying to market the Sayonara, Zetsubou-sensei anime. SZS is an intensely niche title, with fast-paced jokes based around Japanese culture -- a show that requires you to constantly hover your finger above the pause button in order to understand half the jokes.
And so, his project is broken up into four parts: tackling the logo, the DVD cover, creating magazine advertisements and finally a second DVD cover design. He walks you through his design process on each of the projects -- my favorite is the set of magazine ads, as it really grabs your attention for the show. Really, everything looks 100% professional.
While Roody isn't quite done with college yet, he's sure to get a job right away with some of the work that he's presented here. It'd be foolish if any of the anime/manga companies didn't try and tap his talent. You can check out some of the images down in the gallery below, as well as on his original posts. Let him know what you think of the projects!
Also, happy birthday to Roody. I suppose showing your work to all the industry people who are reading the site isn't such a bad gift, now is it?
Man I wish this came stateside.
