Japanator's Summer '10 anime preview, part 2 photo

Welcome to part two of our summer preview! We did part one yesterday, and now it's time for this next batch. Be excited, for we'll be giving you a special double scoop tonight with our part three!

What can you expect after the jump? How about the cuteness and awkward sexuality of Mitsudomoe? Or the inevitable tsundere in Okami-san? How about the Inuyasha ripoff that's sure to be Nurarihyon no Mago?

We'll let you know what to watch, what to avoid, and who is covering what. We've got all the bases covered, although I still don't know who's on first.

Also, don't forget to vote for Team Brad.

Mitsudomoe
Studio: Bridge (New Studio)
Director: Ota Masahiko (Minami-ke, Brighter than the Dawning Blue)
Air Date: July 2, 2010

Cute girls doing cute and sometimes ecchi (pronounced ecky) things. A gag manga, much in the vein of Azumanga Daioh, Minami-ke and K-ON!, this should be our cute and moe show for the season. So, as you can guess, t here's not too much we can say about the plot, but note that these girls are all in sixth grade.

So yes, you should feel bad if they sexually excite you.

But fear not, Karen will be covering the show this season, in the hopes that it's the second coming of Hanamaru Kindergarten. Her words, not mine.

Nurarihyon no Mago
Studio: Junji Nishimura (Ranma 1/2, True Tears)
Director: Studio DEEN (Higurashi, Giant Killing)
Air Date: July 5, 2010

Three quarters human, one quarter demon. Already, my Inuyasha senses are tingling. So he's the grandson of a powerful demon clan, but loves his human friends. He'll protect them when he can become a demon for one quarter of a day -- which actually sounds pretty useful unless he's in some sort of long-term combat.

Packed with all-star talent like Hirano Aya, Horie Yui and the writer behind Tokyo Magnitude 8.0, it looks like this super-popular manga might actually win over some cold and frozen hearts here on the Jtor staff.

Right now, nobody has claimed the show, but we'll see what happens when it airs.

Ookami-san and his Seven Friends
Studio: JC Staff (Toradora!, Azumanga Daioh)
Director: Iwasaki Yoshiaki (The Familiar of Zero, Love Hina)
Air Date: July 1, 2010

A high school comedy/romance! How original! Our Taiga-esque brown-haired girl works with her school club to fix peoples' problems. The show will parody a number of classic fairy tales, such as Little Red Riding Hood and The Art and The Grasshopper -- a mix of Western and Eastern lore -- and should prove to be good entertainment.

What I'm guessing will happen is that the club will slowly grow as our Taiga heroine turns more and more people over to her helpful ways, beyond her Red Riding Hood-esque little friend.

It's got Horie Yui and Kugimiya Rie. Excitement, for sure. Also, I expect plenty of tsun tsun from Josh Tolentino, who will be covering the show for us. Also, expect lots and lots of doujins, I bet.

Legacy Comments

*Crossing fingers for "Ookami-san and his Seven Friends". Tsun tsun is great, behaving like Taiga or Zero would just be bratty (they both deserve a good spanking). So let's hope for the best.
Not much in that batch is exciting me. I guess I'll give Mitsudomoe and Ookami-san a few eps to grow on me, but I don't expect great things.
Sorry, but just the image of Mitsudomoe creeps me the hell out.
Mitsudomoe looks alright. Give me something else to watch along w/ HighSchool of the Dead.
I'll probably pick up Mitsudomoe because I'm a sucker for moe. Alongside Highschool that bumps me back up to my preferred four shows.
Ookami-san ftw. Little red-haired girl I just noticed looks a lot like P-ko. Cute. Irrelevant, but cute.
From this batch, Nurarihyon and Ookami-san are what I'm planning to watch. Not sure if they'll be good or bad, but I think the concepts sound interesting, and from what's being offered up this season, that's enough to distinguish them somewhat.
I'm a fiend for shonen shows so I will at least check out Nuraihyon.

Ookami-san is my second most anticipated show behind HSotD.

Mitusdome is being directed by the guy who did Minami-ke is a plus for me, so I might look at that too.
Ookami-san and HSotD are the two shows I am excited for this season. Ookami-san is full of voice talent. On top of Horie Yui and Kugimiya Rie we have the talent behind K-ON!'s Yui Aki Toyosaki(I don't care what you think of K-On! or Yui acting that dumb takes a TON of talent.. or real idiocy..) and we have Railgun's Kuroko Satomi Arai playing Narrator. Most original series this season ? maybe not but I am still expecting good things from this.
Ookami-san 1 is really good. I loved how they cleverly play on the anime cliches, almost like how metal gear breaks the fourth wall. It's hilarious that that guy'd been stalking her, and just confesses. I'm gonna watch it again, pure jokes.
I feel something good :)
Next.
Ookami-san is the only thing remotely interesting here.
FULLY DEVELOPED TAIGA NOW I DON'T NEED TO FEEL DIRTY
@-Moonlight- Having watched ep one of Ookami-san, "FULLY DEVELOPED" is somewhat a misnomer. Tall Taiga is more discriptive.
Well being tall is part of being developed. Taiga always reminded me of a middle-schooler whenever I watched that show.
Just finished watching Ookami-san. It looks great so far.. and it made me facepalm a few times. I'm waiting for Kuroshitsuji 2 & HSotD.
Adult Taiga sold me on the show, I'm on board for the whole season.
