Japanator Unboxing: TokyoTreat - January 2017

Happy New Treats!

[TokyoTreat provided the box and the reviewer has an affiliate partnership with TokyoTreat]

The nice folks over at TokyoTreat sent me a box from their New Year 2017 to check out and it is a greatly delicious way to ring the New Year! This box is not available anymore but hey, I'm glad I get a chance to check out their past boxes to get a good idea of what might be in store for the future. Again, I am impressed with their selection that I have not seen at my local Asian supermarkets and the ones near me have a lot to offer in way of Japanese snacks.

TokyoTreat is a subscription based service that brings you the most premium Japanese snacks and candies to your door every month, whether they're sweet, sour, and/or savory. Being based in Japan, TokyoTreat has the hookups with the manufacturers and distributors, allowing them to deliver the freshest and trendiest sweets and snacks to your door much faster than your local Asian store (if you even have one).

This January New Year's box definitely has a different variety from last  month's box from Christmas 2016. Just from the first couple of items are things I have never had before with the condensed milk anpan (red bean bun) and a kinako (toasted soy flour) coated chocolate bar. I have only seen anything like those on videos and it's nice to get to try something we hardly see over in most of the US and those two items are on the Small TokyoTreat tier, so everyone gets a chance to try something new.

The savory side of the New Year box has some good offerings with a potato snack flavored with soy sauce, which is not a common flavor and I've probably heard of it neimg in very few Asian countries. There's some Calbee brand lightly salted chips with Baseball cards of the Japan National Team, which is quite amusing having the card pack glued to back of the bag. There's also a delicious sounding "Cultured Butter" flavored Pretz, which has me excited for when I get a chance to try it out.

I'm more of a fan of sweets of the non-gummy variety but I still enjoyed most of the items in the box. I'm super excited to taste the red bean flavored chocolate biscuit, which intrigues me as to how it would taste since I've had red bean but not mixed with chocolate. The aforementioned condensed milk flavored buns and kinako coated chocolate bar also has me giddy just thinking about munching on experiencing something new.

The new variety of sweets and snacks provided in this second box I have received is a good sign and I felt like I got something new and different from the previous month. I'm looking forward to the next box I will receive which is a Valentine's box. So stay tuned for that one!
