Japanese boys rocking skirts are in, so get used to it

Japanese boys rocking skirts are in, so get used to it photo

There's a growing trend of guys wearing skirts now in Japan. No, they're not kilts, either. They're long -- angle length, and they are seen as fashionable, strutting their stuff in fashionable places like Harajuku and Aoyama.

It's actually popular enough that designers are jumping on the trend, selling their own versions. A Yahoo Japan article says that a popular piece goes for 20,000 yen (about $211 U.S.).  An entry on Japanese fashion site Fashionsnap.com features an image of one such "skirt boy," dressed in a A-line style black skirt, seen above.

So, guys, would you rock a skirt? Even if it was "in" and stylish, and people were dropping $200? I like when girls' skirts blow up, but this case would be kind of trappy from behind.

Are you supposed to shave your legs?

He looks a bit like Watabe Gota at a glance. In other words, if a hot guy is wearing a skirt...fine by me.
oh god no... the horror, this will probably discourage the pervs meaning i wont get my upskirt photos of hot japanese chicks
zeroduality: I would wear one just to discourage the pervs.

Take it a step further and go nopan. They'll think twice before trying that again.
I wouldn't wear a skirt even if crossdressing suddenly became normal.
...unless it was a cosplay, and even then, pretty sketchy for me. Vastly unlikely.
Sounds good to me c.c
Not a chance. I don't care if it was the biggest sweeping fad, or if wearing one got you all the ladies, wearing a dress is simply one of those things that fall under my list of, "things to avoid, especially if Japan started it."
Uhhhh. No Thank You x__x

Kilts on the other hand, count me in :D
Round 1, Fight!
... Maybe a Utilikilt at most.
Even then I'd probably say no.
Meh, I have worn a skirt as a necessity ( running out of my ex-girlfriend's home) and they are ridiculously comfortable. As far as I am concerned, it would be pleasant if this became a worldwide thing. Comfort is king :P
Ugh... Drag went out with RuPaul in the 1990s. It's not cool, Japan.
What is the deal with the pussy-fication of Japanese men, lately? First the whole "Herbivore men" thing and now this?

No wonder the birth rate in that country is so low...
I think it's already catching on in europe. I've seen several guys in skirts over here in berlin, but their skirts were rather short. I'm not to much of a fan though...
Kilts ahoy!
no way, that looks terrible and I hope I never see it in person
The picture IS terrible, first off, if one is going to wear a skirt, they have to make the rest manley!

Cut that bloody long hair!
Get some tough looking under/over shirts.
lose the clown shoes and get some sleek runners.

(and maybe get a sword)
I'm afraid of going to Japan and not be able to recognize if the person I'm looking at is a man or woman.

Visual Kei has gone too far.
I think it depends on the guy. If they can "pull it off" then great. It's not like men didn't wear dresses/robes/kilts in the past.

Half the fail points of a guy in a skirt comes from the kind of guy inclined to wear a skirt in the first place.
Yeah, I'm thinking no. The pictured dude's fashion looks bad even aside from the skirt (need haircut, better shoes). And I think I look pretty damn good in jeans, thank you very much.
I wear tights under my jeans for medical reasons, so this is nothing new to me.
The ANDROGYNY FEAR in the comments is the best part of this article. Dudes, the skirt boys aren't going to sneak in and steal your wieners in the middle of the night. It's just a piece of cloth. What it means is totally arbitrary. Get a grip.
Really comfortable, I like it. Wow, recently I saw some guys in skirts!!!!! Just forget the pants dressing style, then u're right. I believe that guys can go in skirts!
It's not about androgyny or crossdressing (which refers only to male - but why?)or something else, it is just that males have changed. That's a truth, and it came from women's "femininism"-movement (which is now a bad word), and so men had to follow. Skirts on men is an old story because the skirt originally is a men's garment. If you want to read more about this new phenomen, please read: http://skirt.com/node/1218
(opinion from a girl)
NOOOOOOO! My eyes already burn when I see men in America who wear skinny jeans, v-neck t-shirts, and the color pink! and Now I HAVE TO ENDURE THIS!!!!! No way, this news....it just makes me want to rip my eyes out with a spoon!
Come on Lucylips, the women get all of the fun of fashion changes every season without fail, meanwhile, men only get dull, boring sucky clothes that pinch and chaff a man's, well you know! Why keep men in a tyrannical state with no choices and no freedom like women have enjoyed for years? I agree with mara, skirts ARE originally for men, it's just the crap about OMG, you're gay if you look different from every other male out there! Please! You already do anyway!

Ok, enough about that!

Yes, I'd wear a skirt, if it's made for men, heck, I'd even wear a short skirt. I'd like to show off my sexy legs to the ladies for a change! ;)

As far as discouraging the pervs, well, maybe, but, if you look at it in another way, perhaps some of those pervs will be girls who will want to upskirt a guy! ;) I've never been upskirted before, that'd be HOT! ;)
Hey BOUKENLOU, you're a jerk. I'm a crossdresser and a vegitarian. I' m also a satanist and you can kiss my a**!
